Melanie Amaro was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and raised in Tortola, British Virgin Islands since age three.Amaro was sent to the British Virgin Islands to live with her grandmother Catherine, after her parents Hipolito Amaro and Debra Sylvester Amaro felt they did not have the means to provide for her.Amaro would only see her parents during summer vacations and Christmas breaks. She also has two brothers named Mark and Mike, and a younger sister named Maya. Her mother Debra recalls that when her daughter was about six months old, she would get up at around two o'clock in the morning and would start singing in her crib. Furthermore, from an early age, Amaro would sing around her house using a hairbrush as a microphone. Melanie realized she fell in love with singing and acting at around age eleven, and credits her mother for pushing her to follow her singing dreams.Amaro never entered any singing competitions as a child, but performed at weddings, churches, and other events.
Following her mother's persuasion in 2011, Amaro auditioned for the first season of The X Factor USA before judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid, singing "Listen" by Beyoncé Knowles. She previously tried auditioning at her local Fox affiliate for a "fast pass", but was not well received by producers there and subsequently auditioned with the general public at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida. After becoming one of the Top 32 finalists, she performed Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There" in the judges' house, in front of her mentor Cowell. Amaro was initially not chosen to be part of the Top 16 and was eliminated from the girls' category. However, Cowell surprised her at her Florida home, inviting her back to the competition after deciding he had made "a huge mistake" in not including her.
Amaro progressed to the live shows in Cowell's girls' category, along with Rachel Crow, Drew, Tiah Tolliver and Simone Battle. The addition of Amaro took the total number of qualifiers for the first live show to 17. On December 15, Amaro won a place in the final along with Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik. The following week, she was declared the winner. Her prize was a $5 million recording contract with Syco Music and Sony Music, which is the largest guaranteed prize in television history. In addition to the contract, Amaro will also appear in a Pepsi commercial set to air during Super Bowl XLVI on NBC.
Amaro will be releasing her debut album sometime in 2012, which will feature music styles different than what people are used to her performing

So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I see you in the distance
It won't be long before you're mine
I've never got this close
I've paid my dues, I've paid the price
I've prayed for you almost every night
You're healing touch can't seal the cracks
Come build me up and bring me back to life
Baby, I'm on my way to you
Tonight, I know you've been waiting for me too
I've walked the longest road
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I see you in the distance
It won't be long before you're mine
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
It's so surreal, won't stop until I touch your skin
Just to know you're real
One million miles is worth the time
'Cause soon I'll be there to see your smile
Baby I'm on my way to you
Tonight, I know you been waiting for me too
I've walked the longest road
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
I see you in the distance
It won't be long before you're mine
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
Counting down, I'm almost next to you
Help me now, I don't know what to do
I never thought you'd be so beautiful
I can't believe it, now you're here it's like a miracle
It's been a long road, it's been the longest road
It's been a long road, it's been the longest road
It's been a long road, it's been the longest road
I've walked the longest road
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
It's been a long road, It's been the longest road
I've never got this close
So don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now
In Melanie Amaro's song "Don't Fail Me Now," the lyrics express the artist's longing and determination to finally reach her destination of being with someone she loves. The opening lines, "I've walked the longest road, so don't fail me now, feet don't fail me now," set the tone for the song as one of urgency and desperation. Amaro sings about how she has never gotten this close to her goal before and implores her feet not to fail her now as she nears the end of her journey.
Throughout the song, Amaro refers to the person she is trying to reach, saying that she sees them in the distance and that they are worth the long road she has traveled. The lyrics "It's so surreal, won't stop until I touch your skin, just to know you're real" convey the intense desire she feels to finally be with them. She acknowledges that she has paid her dues and prayed for this moment, and now she is finally within reach of what she has been striving towards.
Overall, "Don't Fail Me Now" is a song that conveys the deep longing and determination that comes with chasing a dream or goal. The lyrics speak to the idea that sometimes the journey can be long and difficult, but the end result is worth the effort and perseverance.

She is such a talented singer. She blows away a lot of the other singers in the industry.

Her voice is way beyond too amazing for this type of music.

Cristhian Vela
I'm still trying to understand why she was not succesful in the music industry. She has an amazing voice. I do hope some day she gets what she really deserves. Love you Melanie Amaro. It's been a while since this song came out and I still love it. Love from Mexico

It's because they wrote forgettable songs like this and the vocals are over produced and auto tuned. It sounds so synthetic compared to the way she sounded on the X Factor.
Cristhian Vela
@diesel828 definitely! She did not need to have her voice auto tuned. The way she would sing in the xfactor was out of this world.
diesel828
@Cristhian Vela Yeah exactly. They should have just kept her natural voice. But producers are just going to over produce...

Couldn't agree more. When I watched her audition on X-Factor it brought me to tears...she was far and away the best one on the show. Then Simon sent her home...and I was way more than stunned. Simon woke up from his stupor, decided to bring her back, and thank God, she rightfully won the show. SHE IS AMAZING!!!!
