EveryThing Must Change
Melora Hardin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nothing stays the same
Everyone will change
No one stays the same
The young become the old
And mysteries do unfold
'Cause that's the way of time
There are not many things in life
We can be sure of
Except rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And hummingbirds do fly
Winter turns to spring
A wounded heart will heal
But never much too soon
Yes, everything must change
The young become the old
And mysteries do unfold
'Cause that's the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged
There are not many things in life
We can be sure of
Except rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And hummingbirds do fly
Rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And music makes me cry
Melora Hardin's Everything Must Change is a poignant song that speaks about the inevitability of change. The chorus drives home the idea that everything in life is cyclical and that nobody and nothing stays the same. The young transform into the old, the seasons change every year, and hearts broken are eventually healed over time. Change is the only constant in life. The verses talk about how time unravels itself, revealing previously hidden mysteries, but it also highlights the beauty in the little things that remain unchanged, such as the flight of hummingbirds and the universal truth that rain comes from clouds and the sun lights up the sky.
Melora Hardin's poignant lyrics show us that nostalgia is nothing but a longing for something that cannot be brought back, and that it is a defense mechanism against change, which can often be painful. The inevitability of change can be a difficult pill to swallow, but understanding that it is a natural part of life can make it easier to embrace it positively. Everything Must Change is a reminder that change may be daunting, but it is necessary for growth and renewal.
