Memory Garden followed up their first Metal Blade release with shows around Scandinavia and some summer festivals including the mighty "Wacken Open Air" in Germany during the summer of 1999. Having spent the fall of 1999 and the beginning of 2000 writing new material for their upcoming release, Memory Garden entered their own studio "Annoying Sound Factory" in Febuary with Mike Wead once again in the producer chair. Some of the recording was also done in Mike´s own studio, Miseria Recording. The result of their work is the ten song masterpiece that you now hold in your hands called "Mirage". This time Memory Garden have taken their music back to their roots and made an even heavier and darker album than "Verdict Of Posterity". Combining both bone crushing riffs with catchy melodies and layered with beautiful harmonies, the guys have once again made the Memory Garden spirit come alive.

Amen
Memory Garden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Floating and drifting so absorbing
Not affected by anything nor anyone
Malicious shadows have been chased away
From almond coloured remedy so pure
Engrave prejudice of calm and silence
Premonition for deep mental illness
Vague feelings for the destination
Significant silence brings rapture
Plateau of glass in shimmering mauve
Wreathed with a stale relic of dust
Plunged in aversion from apathy
Scented of somnolent abstracts
Admission to something so ominous
A twinge from covet submerge
Stigmatize to poisonous unity
An eternity so eternal
Stretch beyond euthanasia
The palace of conjectures
Contains archaic abhorrence
That will truly converge
From the light of the moon and in the deepest of shadows
Strange things take place to shape our faith
The predetermind downfall approaches like an arch-enemy
Read the spiritual alms for the ordinary
For the pitty ones who are drowning
Read them their amen
The lyrics to Memory Garden's song "Amen" depict a state of awakening and enlightenment, characterized by a sense of floating and drifting, and the absence of negativity or malicious thoughts. The almond-colored remedy spoken of represents a calming force that has driven away any bad energy, leaving only feelings of peace and silence. However, despite this apparent tranquility, there remains a sense of uncertainty and ambiguity about the destination, with only a vague premonition of something deeper and more complex yet to come. The mention of sulphur smelling sensation toward the end of the first verse is perhaps symbolic of the transformative powers at work, as though a chemical reaction is occurring to break down and rebuild the psyche.
The second verse continues to describe the sensation of awakening, with the significant silence bringing forth a sense of rapture, perhaps indicative of a spiritual experience. The "plateau of glass in shimmering mauve" suggests a dreamlike state, further emphasizing the surrealism of the moment. However, despite the beauty and serenity, there is still a sense of darkness lurking beneath the surface, represented by the "stale relic of dust" and "aversion from apathy". The mention of "poisonous unity" and "archaic abhorrence" towards the end of the verse further reinforces the idea that the awakening process is not without its risks, and that there is a struggle between light and dark, good and evil.
Overall, the lyrics to "Amen" offer a complex and multi-layered meditation on the nature of awakening and spiritual transformation. The imagery is both beautiful and haunting, creating a sense of ambivalence about the ultimate benefits of this process. The song encourages the listener to read the "spiritual alms for the ordinary" and find their own sense of Amen, perhaps indicating that everyone has their own path to enlightenment and awakening.
