Memory Garden followed up their first Metal Blade release with shows around Scandinavia and some summer festivals including the mighty "Wacken Open Air" in Germany during the summer of 1999. Having spent the fall of 1999 and the beginning of 2000 writing new material for their upcoming release, Memory Garden entered their own studio "Annoying Sound Factory" in Febuary with Mike Wead once again in the producer chair. Some of the recording was also done in Mike´s own studio, Miseria Recording. The result of their work is the ten song masterpiece that you now hold in your hands called "Mirage". This time Memory Garden have taken their music back to their roots and made an even heavier and darker album than "Verdict Of Posterity". Combining both bone crushing riffs with catchy melodies and layered with beautiful harmonies, the guys have once again made the Memory Garden spirit come alive.

Carved In Stone
Memory Garden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have something you must see
The imitation of being
Can be so revealing
Like a tug in a floodgate
In the leash breeding on hate
Our ancestors did the same
Just another face and another name
A vapid taste of onus
It's our eternal penance
Swept away with the flood
Awakening in knee deep mud
Our darkest day like marionettes made of clay
Turned from a calm dreamer
Into a panicking screamer
I will be forever, forever carved in stone
A darkening era has come
For a moment I was done
Seek and ye shall find
As the time groans in my mind
This road to nevermore turns and wind
The way to our own kind
I will be forever, forever carved in stone
The lyrics to Memory Garden's song Carved In Stone seem to be about embracing one's own flaws and imperfections, and recognizing the superficiality of trying to be anyone other than oneself. The song begins with an invitation to burn with the singer and "see" something, which may be a metaphor for understanding oneself more deeply. The singer sings about the "imitation of being" and how it can "be so revealing." This may refer to people who try to act a certain way, dress a certain way, or adopt certain beliefs simply to fit in or be accepted by others, rather than being true to themselves. However, as the chorus suggests, even though we are all flawed, we can be forever "carved in stone" as long as we are true to ourselves.
The second verse of the song seems to reference a turning point in the singer's life, where they were able to wake up from their illusions and see things more clearly. The "vapid taste of onus" may be a reference to the guilt the singer feels for not being true to themselves before. The flooding imagery throughout the song may symbolize a washing away of the old, false self to make way for the new self. The end of the song seems to suggest that the singer has found their place in the world and is content being themselves, even as they recognize that the road ahead may be difficult.
