The Answer
Memphis May Fire (Unconditional - 2014) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hit the bottom of my lowest lows,
My darkest hours are the times I grow.
And every time I am broken I know
That it's only so I can be restored.

I never would have found my way,
If I didn't realize I was lost in the first place.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
I never could have picked myself up off the ground.

Oh, now I see (I see),
It's not about the things I've done, but what you've done in me.
Now I see,
Fear is irrelevant 'cause you know my every need.

I'm reaching out, you pull me out of the depths,
I see you now, I'm letting go of the rest.
And I won't fear the fall 'cause I know that you'll be there to catch me.
I'll look to you when there's trouble at sea
'Cause I can walk on water when I believe.
And now I know it's true,
You are the answer to everything!

How could I fear this heartbeat that beats for you?
How could I fear this heartbeat that beats for you?
I'm letting go of every fear I hold on to.

Well I don't know what the future holds,
But I know who holds it and it's beautiful.
Every time that I fall short
I'm so thankful I'm not in control.

I'm reaching out (I'm reaching out).
I see you now (I see you now),
And I won't fear the fall cause I know that you'll be there.

(The answer to everything, the answer to everything
The answer to everything, the answer to everything)

When my thoughts take shape like a demon,
I will rest in you (I will rest in you).
The peace I find in my quiet mind
Comes from knowing that your word is true.
You are more than enough!

And now I'm certain that the best is yet to come (best is yet to come).
You are more than enough! (than enough)
The best is yet to come.

I'm reaching out, you pull me out of the depths,
I see you now, I'm letting go of the rest.
And I won't fear the fall cause I know that you'll be there to catch me.
I'll look to you when there's trouble at sea
'Cause I can walk on water when I believe.

And now I know it's true,
You are the answer to everything!

I love how this album has a lot of Christian meaning in it. It makes it even that much better! MMF doesn't just sing about their problems like all these scene bands but they acknowledge that God is the answer to problems. They don't complain, they give praise to God.

@haydin6877

I needed this song. Thank God for Memphis May Fire.

@b_ailey

I really try hard not to get into debates with people on YouTube about religious beliefs, but I'm really impressed with MMF for stepping out in writing songs about their faith. I'm sure they were well aware of the flak they would get, considering this genre is becoming less and less open to Christianity, yet they chose to release it anyways. I think more people need to realize that music is a form of expression to people. This song was written to express thanks to the Lord for helping them get through doubt and tough times. It's clear here that they aren't bashing other religions, or telling anybody that they're going to Hell. They are expressing how their faith has given them hope. Also, their other songs on the album touch on subjects that anybody can relate to. Poverty, self-harm, rejection, mental/emotional illness, love for a significant other, standing up to people who never believed them, and being a positive role model. To write off an entire album because you can't relate to a single song lyrically is an incredibly closed-minded viewpoint. This band is doing what they are truly passionate about simply because of the love for it and writing about what they feel in their hearts. That is what makes somebody a quality musician.

WOW. This is amazing! I'm so excited to hear the rest of the album! Tons of haters about it, probably because of less screaming and Christian references, but I don't care. They can hate as much as they want. Its a 100% great album all around from what I've heard. Album out tomorrow!!! <3

@kurtjensen1790

The direction the band is heading in the music is awesome!!!

@joshinator609

I'm glad that this album touches on deep topics, I can really relate.

@joshinator609

Also, I'm glad that they are not labeling themselves as a Christian band, even though they have religious music. I am a fellow believer, and I totally agree with what their views are, and I think that this way is a good way to get the point across, without stuffing religion down someone's throat. It's a good way to get the gospel out to everyone, and not just Christians.

@doublebass25

The sarcasm is palpable haha

@joshinator609

not a christian band but Matty Mullins (lead singer is a Christian.

@joshinator609

I'm not being sarcastic. I meant it
