Jessy and Dragos knew each other since their fourth year of high school. Back then (mid-2000’s), Dragos had somewhat of a background in classical piano and Jessy mastered the dark and esoteric art of the metal guitar solist.
In 2012, while finishing his master’s degree in audio postproduction at Laval University, Dragos spent most of his days and sleeping hours at the “LARC” studio working on his solo projects. He randomly met Jessy again, who was finishing his bachelor degree in Jazz guitar, in one of the faculty’s hallways and talked about doing a French-Touch / Italo-Disco track together. Some weeks later, they did just that. And it worked out so well that they decided to extend their collaboration to a whole project where many singers such as Odile Marmet-Rochefort, Gabrielle Shonk, Helena Deland and Geoffroy Sauvé, would be involved.
Between 2012 and 2016, all of Jessy’s and Dragos’ releases were made as part of Dragos’ masters and (dropped) PhD studies in order to gain access to the LARC’s infrastructure and to develop a unique sound.
Emma was a fortuitous encounter. In 2015 a mutual friend presented her to Dragos through a video posted over the Internet. She was casually singing and playing the guitar around a campfire with some of her friends. Emma’s voice was different, being less clear, more grainy and fragile with a mysterious twist that caught their attention. They reached her and tried recording one song called “Out in myself”, which turned to be one of the band’s easiest to record.
Jessy and Dragos then invited her to join them on live shows with Odile at the beginning of 2015. The womans' voices blended wonderfully together and the band got lots of positive feedback from the experience. Emma has been part of Men I Trust since then.
With their second album “Headroom", Men I Trust truly became a trio.

She would've end just like her son
Bitter man now turned insane
Day his dog took on the train
Had she lost another one
She would've end just like her mom
Dyed the hair to look as young
By grace, she was spared
A few toes, a few
To care
Had she lost another one
Insurance lawyers would have won
Settle quick, the course was cheap
Didn't bother to go deep
I saw the home she's from (ooh)
No place for one to hum (ooh)
That pride, so dear to some (ooh)
She learned to overcome (ooh)
Fate unearned
By grace, she was spared (ooh)
A few toes, a few (ooh)
To care (ooh)
By grace, she was spared (ooh)
A few toes, enough (ooh)
To care
The lyrics of Men I Trust's "Lucky Sue" tell the story of a woman who has faced loss and hardship throughout her life. The first verse describes how she narrowly avoided a tragic fate similar to that of her son and mother - both of whom died. The line "Day his dog took on the train" suggests that her son may have died in a train accident, which has left her bitter and seemingly on the brink of insanity. The reference to the mother dying highlights that loss and tragedy is something that has heavily impacted Sue's life.
The second verse talks about Sue's attempts to maintain her youth through various means, such as dyeing her hair, but ultimately damaging her health by inhaling fumes and spoiling her lungs. The line "By grace, she was spared" suggests that despite her hardships and misfortunes, she has somehow managed to survive through it all. The final verse describes Sue's humble upbringing, with the lines "No pearl for one to hum" suggesting that she has not come from a life of wealth or privilege. However, despite this, she has overcome her struggles and traumas, with "Fate unearned" maybe suggesting that while life may not have always been on her side, she still managed to rise above it all.
Overall, the lyrics of "Lucky Sue" tell the story of a woman who has faced a lot of loss and hardship in her life, but manages to overcome it and survive against the odds.
