In 2001 Merche were in the Spanish pre-selection for Eurovision Song Contest with the song "No Pidas Mas Amor" under the name Luna. She finished in 6th place, but signed with Vale Music and start to record her first album Mi Sueño. From spring 2002 to the end of summer, the single "No Pidas Mas Amor" was a national hit in Spain, with TV appearances supporting the single and album, and was also the title track of the Spanish version of Big Brother.
"Como Pude" was released as second single, but sales were not as high as expected. In fall 2002 the third single, "Le Deseo" was released, and the album became a hit, up to #12 some weeks, and certificated gold, and a months later, platinum.
In the summer of 2003 the fourth single was released, "Mi Sueño", also with supporting appearances in TV.
In 2002 and 2003, Merche toured with her first album, in the Mi Sueño Tour, where she sang all songs from the album and two covers of other artists, Alaska's "A Quien Le Importa" and Ray Heredia's "Alegria de Vivir".

In Merche's song Yo Debería, she expresses her concerns about the injustices in the world and her desire to take action. She starts off by saying that she has been thinking for a long time about the many stories she wants to start but they weigh heavily on her because time seems to slip away and everything remains the same. She alludes to the fact that people take advantage of the weak, and countless children die for no reason. People have become cold and do not trust each other anymore. She realises that she is just an observer, and she needs to start doing something if she wants to put an end to all of this.
She then talks about how if we stop focusing on ourselves and start accepting the reality of the world, we will see that some people die from very little while others want more and more. She talks about those who suffer silently and how their lives are filled with horrors too hard to put into words. She ends each verse by saying that she feels like she should try to make a difference, but she doesn't know if anyone will listen to her. The chorus is a call for action, to wear someone else's skin to feel what they feel, to scream loudly to instigate change and not let the world continue on this path. It's a request for everyone to stand up and do something, anything, to make a difference.
