Crazy
MercyMe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why would I spend my time pointing to another man
Isn't that crazy
How can I find hope in dying, with promises unseen
How can I learn your way is better
In everything I'm taught to be
Isn't that crazy
[Chorus]
I have not been called to the wisdom of this world
But to a God who's calling out to me
And even though the world may think
I'm losing touch with reality
It would be crazy
To choose this world over eternity
And if I boast let me boast
Of filthy rags made clean
And if I glory let me glory
In my Savior's suffering
Isn't that crazy
And as I live this daily life
I trust you for everything
And I will only take a step
When I feel You leading me
Isn't that crazy
[Chorus]
Call me crazy
You can call me crazy
Call me crazy
[Chorus]
Isn't That crazy
Call me crazy
You can call me crazy
Call me crazy
The lyrics to MercyMe's song 'Crazy' speak about the Christian faith and how it goes against the traditional thinking of the world. The first verse questions why anyone would spend their life longing for the day it would end or pointing to another man when it is clear that these are not the ways of God. It highlights the paradoxical thinking of the world and how different it is from the teachings of Christ.
The chorus reflects on the idea that believers are not called to subscribe to the wisdom of this world, which is fleeting and temporary. Instead, their calling is to follow God and pursue an eternal life that the world may perceive to be crazy. It is a reminder that while the world may see believers as out of touch with reality, it is merely an opportunity to choose something greater than what this world has to offer.
The second verse speaks to the hope that believers have in something unseen and how they are taught that God's ways are better than what society tells them. The bridge then goes on to say that if one desires to boast, they should only do so in the fact that they have been made clean of their sins, and they should glory in the suffering of Christ.
Overall, the lyrics of 'Crazy' represent the idea of standing out from the world by following God's ways, even when it may seem counterintuitive to those around us.
