Grace Tells Another Story
MercyMe Lyrics

You simply cannot find
An ounce of good within the heart of man
They say we've got to lay
In the bed we've made
And live life without a second chance
There must be something more
We've been told that the heart is just too far gone to save
But Grace tells us another story
Where glory sends hopelessness away
Oh Grace tells us another story
They say we cannot change
There is no other way
Get used to it cause this is all there is
They say don't raise your voice
Cause we don't have a choice
We're dealt this hand so learn to live with it
Well I have to believe
There must be something more
We've been told that the heart is just too far gone to save
But Grace tells us another story
Where glory sends hopelessness away
Oh Grace tells us another story
And though we may not understand
Why You'd give us another chance
We praise You who lets us start again
We've been told that the heart is just too far gone to save
But Grace tells us another story
Where glory sends hopelessness away
Oh Grace tells us another story
Oh the heart is just too far gone to save
Oh Grace tells us another story
Where glory sends hopelessness away
Oh Grace tells us another story
The lyrics to MercyMe's "Grace Tells Another Story" speak to the human experience of feeling trapped by our mistakes and shortcomings. The first verse acknowledges the pervasive belief that people are fundamentally flawed and incapable of redemption. This view is often reinforced by our experiences of failure, social conditioning, and personal narratives. However, the song rejects this fatalistic attitude and asserts that there must be something more to life than wallowing in despair.
The second verse challenges the notion of fate and determinism. The idea that we are stuck with our circumstances and cannot actively work to improve them is a disempowering and defeatist outlook. The song instead encourages us to cultivate a sense of agency and believe that change is possible. To do so requires us to defy the pressure to conform and speak up against injustice and complacency.
