I See Love
MercyMe Steven Curtis Chapman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some see a teacher standing on a hill speaking words of wisdom
Some see a healer reaching out His hand to give sight to a blind man
Some see a dreamer wasting His life for what can never be
Some see a fool dying for His dream

But I see love, I see love
Light of heaven breaking through
But I see grace, I see God's face
Shining pure and perfect
Love when I see You
I see love

Some see a prisoner alone before His judge with no one to defend him
Some see a victim beaten and abused with all the world against Him
Some see martyr carrying His cost for what He believes
Some see a hero who set His people free

But I see love, I see love
Light of heaven breaking through
I see grace, I see God's face
Shining pure and perfect
Love when I see You
I see love

With your last breath I see love
Through Your death I see life
I see peace in the eyes of a King
I see hope in Your suffering (I see love)
I see a calm in the center of a storm
I see a savior

I see love, I see love
Light of heaven breaking through
I see grace, I see God's face
Shining pure and perfect
Love when I see You
I see love

Some see Him walking from an empty grave

Overall Meaning

The song "I See Love" by MercyMe and Steven Curtis Chapman speaks about a person's perspective when they look at Jesus. The lyrics portray the different views that people have of Jesus, some see Him as a teacher, a healer, a dreamer, a fool, a prisoner, a victim, or even as a hero, but the writer sees Him as love.

The writer depicts Jesus as the light of heaven breaking through with grace, purity, and perfection. They see God's face shining through Jesus, which represents the love, peace, and hope that He brings to their life. The chorus repeats the phrase "I see love" to emphasize the idea that despite what other people might see or think of Jesus, the writer sees Him as the embodiment of love itself.

The song also acknowledges the sacrifice that Jesus made for humanity, as the line "Through Your death, I see life" indicates. Despite the suffering that He endured, the writer sees a calmness and a savior in Jesus.

Overall, the song speaks about the transformative power of Jesus and how He can change one's perspective of life. By seeing Jesus as love, the writer is confident in His ability to bring light and hope into their life.

What was really startling about this song is the collaberation of 3 awesome performers. It didn't get much airplay when it came out, but the words were awesome. For a lack of a better way of putting it, this is the ULTIMATE praise song of all time. It really touches what Jesus is all about, what His ministry really was and still is, and how we all came to believers through His strength
