2006 saw the band tour Australia with The Strokes, record two tracks with Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio, and after an intense bidding war, eventually sign with Capitol Records in the US. However, the deal would be short-lived, and 2007 saw the band part ways with Capitol after its merger with Virgin. The band toured with the Pixies, Editors, Cut Copy, Wolf & Cub and the Horrors, and played at the Sydney and Gold Coast legs of the V Festival. The band's first release, the Kept Low EP, was recorded and released August 2007 on Levity in Australia.
On their self-titled debut album, released in Australia independently in August 2008, they collaborated with producer Tony Cohen and mixed the album in Melbourne with Tony Espie
Mercy Arms have been on hiatus since February 2009 after touring with the Big Day Out nationally. This is mainly credited to Callinan and Moore's creative differences. New projects include Kirin & Julian playing in 'Fashion Launches Rocket Launchers', Kirin performing solo as 'Kirin J. Callinan', Ash Moss plays bass in 'Faker' & Thom has new band 'Canvas Kites'.
They unfortunately split in February of 2009 after an eventful four years.

Mercy Arms Lyrics

You'll take my love
And On & On
You'll fake your love.
On a night like this
We'd be sure not to kiss
You take my love
And On & On
You fake your love
On a night like this
We'd be sure not to kiss
When it comes down to it.
On & On (We're caught in the war)
You'll take my love (Well you know)
And On & On (We're caught in the war)
You'll fake your love
On a night like this
We'd be sure not to kiss
When it comes down to it
Is there more after this?
The lyrics to Mercy Arms's song "On & On" express the pain of being with someone who takes love but doesn't give it back in return. The singer acknowledges that the person they are with is likely to fake their love, but they continue to give their love nonetheless. The repetition of the phrase "On & On" highlights the cyclical nature of this toxic relationship.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of restraint and self-preservation. The singer mentions that on a night like this, they would be sure not to kiss, suggesting that they are trying to resist the temptation to be vulnerable with someone who won't reciprocate their feelings. Despite this, they still find themselves caught up in the war of love and unable to escape.
Overall, "On & On" is a poignant depiction of the struggle of loving someone who doesn't love you back. The singer acknowledges the pain of this situation while still holding on to hope for something more.
