You're still awake and the morning's rushing
Like a wave gon' find something someday
Dirty speakers scream in your face
And the teachers keeping some secrets safe
While we read between the pages
I've been chilling with my kinfolk weed been
Puffin' on the blunt smoked it in for our hidden treasures
Don't you see we got what no money could measure
And we could be free if we keep our hidden treasures
Chasing fictions
Like a train not gon' save my love for no rainy day
I'll never find no peace that way
I've been chilling with my kinfolk weed been
Puffin' on the blunt smoked it in for our hidden treasures
Don't you see we got what no money could measure
And we could be free if we keep our hidden treasures
I've been chilling with my kinfolk weed been
Puffin' on the blunt smoked it in for our hidden treasures
The song "Kinfolk" by Mereba talks about the idea of finding peace and freedom in the simple things in life, despite the hustle and bustle of the ever-moving world around us. The opening lines describe the restlessness that sometimes can keep us awake at night as the morning approaches. This is contrasted with the metaphor of a wave that will eventually find something someday, indicating that there is a sense of hope in the midst of the chaos. The lyric "dirty speakers scream in your face" suggests a feeling of being overwhelmed with the noise and confusion of the world, while "the teachers keeping some secrets safe" hints at the idea of hidden knowledge that may provide a way out of the confusion.
The chorus then further explores the theme of finding meaning in the simple things in life by celebrating the connection and community found in spending time with "kinfolk." Smoking weed and searching for "hidden treasures" symbolizes the idea of finding happiness and contentment in the things that money can't buy. Mereba suggests that by keeping these "hidden treasures" close, they can find freedom and escape from the chaos of the world.
The second verse explores the idea of chasing after things that ultimately won't bring lasting happiness. The lyric "chasing fictions like a train not gonna save my love for no rainy day" suggests that seeking material possessions at the cost of true connection and contentment won't bring a sense of peace. This further underscores the importance of keeping simple pleasures like spending time with loved ones and enjoying the present moment close.
Overall, "Kinfolk" is a poignant reminder that the things that truly matter in life are often the simplest ones, and by focusing on those "hidden treasures" and spending time with loved ones, we can find true freedom and happiness.
