I float through physical thoughts. I stare down the abyss of organic dreams
All bets off, I plunge - Only to find that self is shed

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Shed" by Meshuggah portray a deep introspection into the human experience. The opening lines of the song, "I float through physical thoughts," suggest a separation of the physical self from the mental realm. The individual becomes detached from their bodily limitations, thus enabling them to explore their unconscious desires and aspirations. The following line, "I stare down the abyss of organic dreams," depicts a moment of contemplation in which the individual is confronted with their deepest fears and desires.

The phrase "All bets off, I plunge" serves to emphasize the fearless nature of the singer. The decision to jump off the metaphorical cliff is an act of defiance against the constraints of societal norms and expectations. The final line, "Only to find that self is shed," alludes to the idea of shedding one's identity to uncover a new truth. The singer seems to suggest that only by confronting their innermost self, and shedding their old skin, could they uncover a new sense of self.

Overall, "Shed" by Meshuggah is a deeply introspective song that explores the human mind and emotions. It invites listeners to question their deepest desires, fears, and aspirations and to embrace change and transformation.

Catch 33 is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. first time i listened to it, i just let the entire thing play from start to finish (how almost all albums should be listened to the first time, IMO) and was absolutely blown away. love these guys.

@jakeen229

I was gonna review it on my page, but I have to be honest I can't. It is beyond anything I remember getting it back in 05..nothing that year was fucking with this album. It's literally just a Cacophony of noise orgasms. def in my top 10 metal albums of all.
