Who Are You
Metodi Hristov Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just two good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm
Beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law
Since the day they was born

Straightenin' the curves, flattenin' the hills
Someday the mountain might get 'em but the law never will

Makin' their way, the any way they know how
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow

Makin' their way, the any way they know how
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow

Just two good ol' boys, wouldn't change if they could
Fightin' the system like a true modern day Robin Hood

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Metodi Hristov's song "Who Are You" are actually a reference to the famous 80s TV show, The Dukes of Hazzard. The show followed the adventures of two good ol' boys named Bo and Luke Duke who lived in a fictional county called Hazzard County. The opening theme song of the show also includes these lyrics: "Just two good ol' boys, never meaning no harm. Beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born. Straightening the curves, flattening the hills. Someday the mountain might get 'em, but the law never will."

The lyrics go on to describe how Bo and Luke Duke make their way in the world, "Makin' their way, the only way they know how. That's just a little bit more than the law will allow." This line specifically references their habit of jumping their car, the General Lee, over obstacles, which was definitely not something the law would allow!

Finally, the lyrics describe Bo and Luke as "fighting the system like a true modern day Robin Hood." This is a nod to the fact that the Dukes often found themselves in trouble with corrupt local authorities, and that they used their skills and ingenuity to help those in need and stand up for justice.
