That's Life
Michael Bubl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Don't let it get you, don't let it get you down)
(For this world keeps on spinning 'round)

That's life
That's what all the people say
You're riding high in April
You're shot down in May
I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top in June

I say that's life
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on your dreams
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine ol' world keeps spinning 'round

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn, and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
But I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on this face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life
I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby
This heart wasn't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn, and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
But I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here July

I'm gonna roll
I'm gonna roll
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
You can't deny it
Don't let it keep you down

Don't let it keep you down
That's life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Michael Bublé's "That's Life" is an ode to the ups and downs of life. The first line, "That's life," sets the tone for the rest of the song. It's an honest acceptance of how the world works. The song talks about the highs and lows that everyone encounters in life. Bublé mentions that you might be riding high in April, but you could be shot down in May. However, he won't let the downs keep him down because the world keeps on spinning.

Bublé has been through it all. He's been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king. He's experienced every emotion and every situation that life has thrown his way. However, every time he finds himself on his face, he picks himself up and gets back in the race. Bublé admits that he's thought of quitting before, but his heart won't buy it. He won't let the struggles of life defeat him.

The song's message is that no matter how many times life throws you down, you have to get back up and keep moving forward. Life is tough, and it can be cruel, but we can't let it defeat us. We have to accept the ups and downs and keep pushing through. The song's lyrics are an encouragement to never give up, to keep fighting, and to never let life get us down.

No one can sing it like Frank Sinatra but Michael does his own version very well. Michael is an incredible singer who sings these classics in his own way. He needs some credit for that. Michael Buble is the best modern day Jazz singer ever and he is up there with the greats.

@wafflepiepancake

+Jake Hearn agreed!

@greeneyesmexico

+Jake Hearn Absolutely agree with you. Sinatra is unsurpassed, but particularly in this song, Buble is a very close second. He - just as Sinatra- has a perfect pitch, precise phrasing and impeccable diction. Every word is given the proper meaning, pause....it's seems almost they are telling a story, not singing. Love it.

Couldn't have said that better myself 👌🏻

@mindaugaspundzius852

I honestly think Kurt Elling is the best modern day jazz singer, no offense
