As an Indian, I am well aware of the differences between real Gandhi and the one in-game:

Real Gandhi - "I'd die rather than ever use violence on anything."

Civilization Gandhi - "Give me all your money! Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!"

He proceeded to nuke me even after I gave him all my cash, plus two cities he demanded, and one extra just to keep relations good. Never trust Civ Gandhi.

This one snuck up on me. At first it felt like only a little bit of Indian instrumentation came through. But each time I listened to it, more and more traditional sounds came through. The swelling orchestra and the many-layers create this tremendous sense of scale and wonder.

I know Gandhi in the game is a nuke-crazed personality, but I always found his peace theme to be rather heart-warming and uplifting....maybe its just the music, or knowing what he was like in real life. As Alber Einstein said: "Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this Earth"

The only time Gandhi has ever been hostile towards me was when I was being super aggressive towards Montezuma and burned each and every one of his cities to the ground. I eventually declared war on him with Genghis Khan. We didn't destroy him but I did nuke him twice. Other than that one incident, he has been super peaceful with me. So I still really don't see why you people are saying he's so hostile.

Whoever remixed Gandhi's War Theme is amazing. You'd almost think this was his in-game Peace Theme! Someone put it in the workshop as a mod.

In all seriousness though, I actually haven't had many problems with India, other than them being dickish from time to time. Haven't had any real wars. Seems pretty weak too. I've recalled him to life in games twice, now.

Underrated song. Also, the devs knew what they were doing since he gets one of the better ancient UUs, a replacement for the castle and a UA that help warmongering when taking tall cities, for instance, capitals. Possibly yours.

I have never had any problem with Gandhi in any of my games. Gandhi is always my closest and strongest ally. I guess is just how similarly we play; we both just take up little space and soak up culture as allies, and the rest of the world knows it. At one point, we couldn't fend of Hiawatha's attack on Gandhi's cities, so he was eliminate from the game. I had no other close allies, so I had no choice but to win Gandhi's cities back for him.

In Civ. 1, Gandhi personality scale for aggression was 1 out of 10, meaning he was super peaceful; but some government types the AI could adopt would reduce or increase the personality scales. Democracy reduces the aggression scale by two, so the game guessed that 1/10 - 2/10 = 9001/10

Ghandi was a great person, standing for ideals that would benefit the world, not destroy it. His death saddens me, he seemed the one true bastion of hope for humanity. But like so many other pure souls his life was cut short by mankinds sins. And considering Im British and Ghandi was a massive part of getting us the relinquish control over India (which I heartedly agree with, while we may have done some good over there it was more than time for India to stand on her own) that should mean a lot

Personally, I'd think he'd laugh at it all if you gave him the full explanation behind the origins of the late-game aggression.

What he probably wouldn't be too keen on though would be how some parts of this theme sound distinctly British of nature. I mean, sure, India became a massive part of the British Empire and British culture became ingrained into Indian. But that's a lot of what he fought against (yes, you can technically fight peacefully). I don't know the complete ins-and-outs of his movement, but could someone who does correct me if possible? I really need to sleep now and I'd likely forget this comment ever existed once I do.

It was a reference to a glitch in the old games where the peaceful Gandhi would become insanely aggressive if he adopted democracy.

Gandhi's peaceful protests became standard for peaceful protesting in the future. In addition it he gained independence, and the weaving wheel he was seated at became the official, national flag for India. He was all about kindness too, and he often spoke for justice and moral behavior. When you read history textbooks, you will always see Gandhi, not those other emperors, because they didn't do what Gandhi did.

People always claim Gandhi turns too aggressive at the stage of the game when (and if) he acquires nuclear capabilities. For all games I've seen with him, he never seems to get the chance. He always remains peace-loving and then gets trampled by the other AIs. I always laugh at the messages saying "Gandhi is a threat to the World" before he's even done anything, like the game's self-aware or something. If he has any cities left, he never seems to recover enough science to get Atomic Theory before ~~I win~~ I mean, the game ends.

There was one abnormality with that though. In one of my first games playing Civ5 I encountered him, and he was neighbouring me and, I think, the Ottomans. I kept on Gandhi's side hoping it would evade this "undefined wrath" the youtube comments seemed to suggest. Then somewhere around mid-Industrial he got involved in a spat with ol' Suleiman. I didn't see much over the Fog of War, other than 2 or 3 of the Ottomans' cities fall one after another and quickly razed. Each city seemed to fall in about 2 turns, which shocked me. After that though, he resumed being peaceful until the end. Weird...

I love having India as an ally, he's perfect for trade. Usually his economy is prosperous unless he's bullied. I love having trades with him giving away excess luxurious for his luxurious or gold which I use the gold to make my empire even stronger or should I happen to be in war, I trade as much luxurious for gold as i can with him and then start spitting out Minuteman and Cannons like mad and invade the person who declared war on me.

It's not an outrage at all. In the game, the rest of the leaders are portrayed just the same. While historical accuracy has an influence on how their ai works, they're still ai in a video game, and like all ais in video games they want to win and want you to lose. If that means backstabbing you in the back while demanding all your cities, then thats the ai trying to win.

Gandhi spoke 3 languages, Hindi, English and Gujarati. Hindi better represents India than the other 2. I still think that they should have used an ancient Indian leader instead of Gandhi, and had him speak Sanskrit.

Gandhi aggression is 1 initially , lowest in the game....then upon research of democracy the agression reduces by 2 which amounts to 1 - 2 = 255.... Now 255 agression is what makes Gandhi nuclear....
