One more and I'm gonna die
Wired out waiting for the sign
Coz your a risk and I'm borderline
All I know is I've been sitting with this fire and it burns inside
Man if you want me to walk your line then don't stop at eight no lets take it
To the nine's
Because man I really need it
To the nine's
I may be full but It's not enough
Come and show me how to feel it
All or nothing
You know that's how I play the game and I'm ready now
Man if you want me, come cross the line and
Slide up to eight then lets take it
To the nine's
In Michael Gray's song "Borderline," the singer begins by acknowledging that they are facing another lonely night and that if they go through another one, they may not make it. The singer is wired out and waiting for a sign because they are attracted to someone who they see as a risk, and they are borderline, meaning they are on the line between control and losing themselves to their desires. The fire is burning inside of the singer, and they tell the person they are attracted to, that if they want them to walk their line, not to stop at eight, but to take them to the nines. The singer knows they should lay out and love because they really need it, but even though they may be full, it's not enough. They are hoping the person they are attracted to will come and show them how to feel it. The singer is described as an all or nothing type of person, ready to play the game and cross the line for love.
The lyrics in "Borderline" explore the singer's struggle with their desires and willingness to push their boundaries for love. The singer acknowledges that their attraction to this person may be risky and potentially dangerous for them to go after, but they are willing to take the risk. The line "if you want me to walk your line then don't stop at eight no lets take it to the nine's" highlights the idea that they don't want to settle for mediocre love and aim to experience something beyond the norm. The theme of risks and hazards is also prevalent in the lyrics, where a sense of danger associated with physical or emotional harm is portrayed.
