Who's Lovin' You
Michael Jackson; The Jackson 5 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I had you
I treated you bad and wrong my dear
And girl since, since you went away
Don't you know I sit around with my head hanging down
And I wonder who's lovin' you?

I should have never ever ever made you cry
And girl since, since you've been gone
Don't you know I sit around with my head hanging down
And I woonder who's lovin' you?

Life without love is oh, so lonely.
I don't think, I don't think I'm gonna make it.
All my love, all my love, yeah, belongs to you only.
Come on and take it, girl, come on and take it
Because I-I-I, all I can do, all I can do
Since you been gone is cry
And do you, you too, ever wonder or worry your pretty little head
'Bout what I do?
Don't you know I sit around with my head hanging down
And I wonder who's lovin' you.
I-I-I-I I wonder, yeah

I-I-I-I don't know, yeah
Who's lovin' you?

Overall Meaning

Dear Michael Jackson,

The lyrics of the song 'Who's Lovin' You' is about the regret and pain of losing a loved one due to the mistakes and wrongdoings committed in the relationship. The singer looks back on their time together and recognizes that they treated their partner poorly and caused them a lot of pain. Since the partner has left, the singer feels lost and wonders who is currently taking care of their partner and giving them the love that they deserve. The chorus of the song emphasizes the loneliness and sadness that the singer feels without their partner and pleads for them to come back and take their love.

The line "Life without love is oh, so lonely" is a strong statement about the importance of love and the emptiness that comes with the lack of it. The singer realizes that their love and the relationship was the only thing that gave meaning and happiness in their life. The repeated phrase "All my love belongs to you only" shows the depth of the singer's feelings towards their lover and how they are unable to love someone else.

Overall, the song is a heartbreaking reflection on the aftermath of a failed relationship and the longing for the love that was lost.

Not sure about that to be honest.

MJ may have had his demons (like alot of us do), but overall, you'd have to say he lived a life considered well above the average of a normal person.

The people he surrounded himself with are par for the course with famous people and everyone involved in Hollywood always comes out of it messed up, especially child stars.

Can't necessarily say MJ was treated worst than anyone else and can't also say some of the attention he received wasn't self perpetuated. I'm not saying what the media and the suits were doing was right, I'm just saying Michael didn't help himself and I'm not sure he was quite as naive about those around him as the impression he gave.

MJ made alot of unnecessary mistakes. I just cannot help but wonder how he would have turned out if he just left his appearance alone, retired after hitting the top and just went off the radar by trying to live a normal life away from trying to be in the limelight.

Oh well, it was a heck of a show while it lasted anyway.

So many people have attempted this song in competitions, however, he is the only one that sounds the most effortless. Thumbs up if you agree.

"Who's Loving You" was written by Smokey Robinson, who performed it first with the Miracles.
*Michael's version is better, but maybe I'm biased.
