Can You Feel It
Michael Jackson / Jackson 5 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it?
Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it?

All the colors of the world should be
Lovin' each other wholeheartedly
Yes, it's all right
Take my message to your brother
And tell him twice
Spread the word and try to teach the man
Who's hating his brother
When hate won't do, ooh
Cause we're all the same, yes
The blood inside of me is inside of you
Now, tell me
Can you feel it
Tell me Can you feel it
Can you feel it, oh
When you see it's going down
Can you see it in your bones?
Can't you feel it, yeah

You know I always, always wanted
You should keep on, because the force is got a lot of power in
It make me feel like, it make me feel like woo

Keep on with the force, don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force, don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough

Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
Keep on with the force, don't stop
Keep on with the force, don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough

People always told me
Be careful of what you do
Don't go around
Breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me
Be careful of who you love
Be careful of what you do
'Cause the lie becomes the truth Hey hey hey

Billie Jean is Not my lover
Don't do it Billie Jean
Woo, she says I'm not the one
Billie Jean is Not my lover

Eat this!

I took my baby
On a Saturday bang
Boy is that girl with you
Yes we're one and the same
Now I believe in miracles
And a miracle
Has happened tonight!

But, if
You're thinkin'
About my baby
It don't matter if you're
Black or white

Being my brother
It don't matter if you're
Black or white!
Being my brother
It don't matter if you're
Black or white!

I am tired of this devil
I am tired of this stuff
I am tired of this business
Girl when the
Going gets rough
I ain't scared of
Your brother
I ain't scared of no sheets
I ain't scare of nobody
Girl when the
Goin' gets mean

It's black, it's white, yeah yeah yeah
It's black, it's white, yeah yeah yeah
It's black, it's white, yeah yeah yeah
Being my brother

It don't matter if you're
Black or white!

Overall Meaning

The song "Can You Feel It" by Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 is a call to unite the world and bring love and peace to all. The lyrics ask if the listener can feel the air of change and the coming together of people from all over the world. The song encourages embracing diversity and loving others as equals, despite differences in race, ethnicity, or nationality.

It takes a critical look at the world and highlights the disparities and injustices that exist, pointing out that every healthy smile is hunger and strife to someone else, and every breath we take is potentially someone else's death. The lyrics call on everyone to spread the message of love and peace to their brothers and sisters and teach people to see beyond hate.

The song's repeated questions of "Can you feel it?" serve as a chant to motivate and empower listeners and call them to action. It emphasizes that we all share a common bond as human beings and share a spiritual connection, which means the same blood flows in everyone's veins.

This was 1980! What other artist was making songs and yet not less a video show casing White people, Black people, Indian people, Native American people, Asian people and Latin people coming together as one People!! I don’t know any other artist that did it before him! I love you Michael Jackson! You were ahead of your time and a true Super Star that blessed this planet!!

As a kid in the 70's, I can remember lots of imagery that showed people of all races coming together. There was a Coke commercial. There was some cartoon, might have been a cartoon commercial, that showed the earth and showed children of all races encircling the earth and holding hands. I also had a doll set that consisted of about 20 different dolls, each from a different country, where each one was dressed in their native dress. These things had a huge impact on making me understand from an early age that all people were one human race...and the this Jacksons video just reinforced all that.

As I look at this now, as an adult at age 56, what I see is imagery and symbolism that ties in with other celestial beings who are currently sending us positive vibes / energy to help us get through all the (seemingly) bad stuff we are now experiencing as a planet.
