If I remember correctly; Kyle was mad that Hillin didn't hold the brakes to keep from sliding up the track. Kyle had a great chance to win this race.

Duane Davis problem was, Hillin had no brakes. It wasn't like Hillin simply spun it and could have controlled the car. The car was already demolished. There wasn't anything Hillin could do except be a passenger.

I have a feeling Petty started it off by saying something when he was up on the window leaning towards Hillin. Petty has to realize that you dont get to throw down and then just walk away, especially when the other car was a total victim of circumstance. I see nothing wrong with Hillin walking after him and it seems to me that Petty was jusr begging to have his jaw wired shut and be on a liquid diet for a few weeks.

What people don't remember is that Kyle sat on the pole for this race, had a very fast car and could have won this race if not for a refueling problem on the caution pit stop before this wreck happened. He had to come back in for an extra pit stop to get the car full of fuel and it put him back in the pack which is why got caught up in this crash.

Exactly I could see if Bobby tapped him on purpose or wrecked Kyle. Both drivers were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yea, i remember him saying that in the post race interview. The problem I had with this incident when it happened is I drove a Busch series car at Pocono in the stock car experience back in 2001 and one of the first things they teach you and stress to you is anytime you spin out, lock it down and turn left into the grass. Hillen with or without brakes was trying to get control of his car instead of locking it down. Sucks, but that's racing ultimately.

Jeff was a rookie at some point, he's way better now than he was then, especially with pushing it when it needs to be pushed. He was pretty bad in those races after Daytona and crashed out and tore up a lot of stuff. At one point, Darrell Waltrip told Rick he'd never make it. Once Gordon figured out how to push the car when he needed to, results started coming, and did they ever.

One bit of irony about this particular incident. The two key participants were Al Unser, Jr. and Bobby Hillin, Jr. A little over a decade earlier, Al Unser, Sr. drove for Bobby Hillin, Sr.'s Longhorn Racing team for three years in IndyCar competition from 1980-'82, just before Bobby Hillin, Jr. began his NASCAR career. He never won driving for the elder Hillin, but ran surprisingly strong at times before joining Penske in 1983, where he won the national championship in two of his three full-time years driving for Roger (1983 and '85).

Well, since the replay was cut off before you find out why they were arguing, you can only guess. Wouldn't be surprised if Hillin was mad at Petty for hitting him. Heck, not like he couldn't see him coming onto the track. Just looks like he had plenty of time to turn, rather than locking the brakes up.

A lot of comments on here who don't realize even why Kyle was mad. He was mad because he believed Hillin didn't lock his brakes down causing him to slide back up the track. It ended up not being the case, but inside the car at these speeds you miss shit like that until you can watch it later. I've remembered a couple of accidents I've been in myself radically different than what I see in the replays afterwards when I watch the races.

Kyle was so angry because of two reasons. 1. he sat on the pole that day and was in position to win a cool 1,000,000 dollars if he won the race, don't forget this is 1993 that was a LOT of money then. 2. Hillen didn't keep his car down in the grass after spinning out, a very foolish mistake at Daytona. Essentially though, Kyle just wanted to walk away and Hillen wouldn't stop trying to apoligize! He shoulda just let Kyle steam it off and wait till later!

@@brianbooher2286 In fact, this was to be Al Unser, Jr.'s one and only NASCAR race, though he probably wanted to compete in more NASCAR races when it didn't conflict with his IndyCar schedule, particularly at Daytona and Indy. A major reason for that was that he began driving for Roger Penske the following year, and Penske had a history of drivers getting hurt in forms of racing other than what they were competing in while they were driving for Penske. Both Gary Bettenhausen and Bobby Allison got injured driving in other forms of racing, so except for IROC, he never allowed his drivers to race in other forms of racing for many years.

Kyle was mad and I don't blame him because Hillin should have kept his car on the grass and not come back onto the track in traffic. A lot of young guys don't understand that concept. If you can keep the car up or down it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get by. Kyle had a point here!

How in the name of gawd do people figure this was Hillin's fault?? When cars are moving that fast and they hit something or get hit, things break....brake lines, steering boxes, tie rods.....he had ZERO control!! Whadda ya think he's thinkin'?.."Oh man...if I can time this just right I can smack into Kyle.....I'd love to take him out of the race...and I might even hurt myself in the process!".....My bet is, he's thinkin'.."Holy shit!...This might hurt!"
