Longing
Michael Kiske Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feelings come and go, I've never known,
Something longs to grow, won't let go.
Spirits around my head, are whispering,
I turn inside instead, of wondering.

Deep inside of me, I know there's got to be,
A different kind of truth, that sets the spirit free.
If I don't wanna know, what's written inside me,
How could I see anything, how could I be anything ?

Restless minds have searched, long before,
The truth will be same, for evermore.
The mightiness of trees, that you can feel,
Can give you all you need, just listen still.
Here is love and there is pain.
It's all around, it's all the same,
There's nothing new that I could tell to you.
But still there is the universe inside of us that never bursts,
We might not know the mining yet, but I am sure we can't reject
The truth that is in everything, that is and has been and will be.

There is a long way to go, there is a high place to know,
There is a world to go through, but there's so much more to do
Until we're home!

Deep inside of me, I know there's got to be,
A different kind of truth, that sets the spirit free.
If I don't wanna know, what's written inside me,

How could I see anything, how could I be anything?
Feelings come and go, I've never known

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Michael Kiske's song Longing describe the struggle of an individual in search of a deeper truth that exists within them. The first verse talks about the fleeting nature of emotions and the constant desire for growth and exploration. The whispering spirits around the head signify the subtle but ever-present guidance of intuition which often goes ignored in favor of external stimuli. Instead of looking outwards to search for meaning, the singer chooses to turn inward and explore the universe within, where exist a different kind of truth that could set the spirit free.

The following verse talks about how great minds throughout history have tried to seek out the truth that remains the same through all of time. The mighty trees, the emblems of permanence, stand tall and exude a sense of stillness and calm that can be perceived if one listens to its surroundings. Love and pain are all around, the singer admits, but there is a mystery that lingers forever waiting to be unearthed.

The last verse talks about the universality of the quest for truth and how it's a journey that never ends until one finally finds their home. The yearning for the kind of truth that sets the spirit free and the realization that it exists within oneself is a relatable theme that continues to resonate with listeners.

Such great song, unbelievable that it has only a few likes... whats wrong with the people?! One of my fave songs from Kiske.

Metal storm

I always cry on this song so I skip it frequently, it’s far too emotional than I can normally take. Chameleon is indeed an underrated album, with very burdened historical context - Ingo’s ilness, inner tension between the band members, anxious beginning of a new era with the formal end of the Cold War ... this song feels like the silent rain that covers the lonely tears

Одна из красивейших мелодий "Helloween", недооцененная поклонниками! 👍👍👍
