by the way judging is based on how it LANDS not how the base touches. If you flip it over and it points directly away from you, that's 12 o'clock

Scottish kids at a summer camp I went to played 'Thistle Kicking'. It was where they kicked thistles with their bare feet. The winner was judged on the distance of the kick and how many thorns they had stuck in their foot (the more the better).

I remember watching this as a kid, my stepbrother used to compete in the games. He actually holds the record in Oregon for getting 3 12 O'clocks in a row. As a kid I didn't realize how crazy that is, but I picked one of these up a few years back and my mind was blown.

Have witnessed such a contest and it was great. If you're going down this road of sports we don't see every day here, I'd personally like to see hurling (though there will be blood), curling (the variety where everyone is holding a beer) and rodeo (those riders are crazy, plus: rodeo clowns!)

They score it like the hand of a clock. You want the caber and yourself lined up 1:1 which would be a perfect toss or at "12:00" any scew of that changes the clock accordingly. Along with a few other rules. It's good, clean fun! Big guys throwing heavy things.

FYI the 12 o’clock isn’t about the angle when the but hits, it’s about how far to either side the top goes. So if it goes over perfectly strait it’s a 12 but if the top leans a little to the right it would be 1 o’clock and if it leans a little to the left it is an 11 o’clock

I volunteered for the highland games in St Louis when I was in college. A buddy and I had to carry the caber back to the start line and then walk that pole up on its end....all...day...long. Those poles are HEAVY.

For the Caber Toss, it has go over, meaning one end lands on the ground and the opposite end goes completely 90 degrees straight up and then falls forward. Then it is scored based on how straight it lands according to the top half of the clock. So if it it 12, it lands perfectly straight and that is the goal. If it lands 1:30, it is off to the right and so forth. Whomever tosses their caber to land straightest to 12 wins.

late, but is there a reward for getting it over multiple times? Like, say one dude gets it over 3 times and they all land at 1pm and another dude only makes it over once but lands at 12:30. Does 12:30 win or is there some aggregate scoring involved?
