@Necriptos maybe they will see all the positive feedback and decide to add some Monkey Island content. Maybe the Easter eggs were just feelers to see what the reception would be like before they went to the trouble of developing some in game content

@crimsontide1980 Yeah the easter egg was neat, thought I wished they would have added a bit more, and they chances are high now with the new MI game that they could do a collab with the monkey island license again. and yeah TOMI overall is a great game, my only complaint really with it is I wish we were more "free", more places to go etc, you end up very confined in your current chapter, and it feels also a bit generic at times, very similar to any other tall tale games. besides that I still think the design is top notch and the humor is on point.

@Necriptos I'm kinda mixed on the TOMI games but I just started playing them again so maybe the experience will be better this time around. It's been about 10 years since I last played TOMI and it was on a Wii console. I have it downloaded to my PS3 and have it hooked up to my big TV, so far I'm just playing the first episode and really enjoying it. Man it's such a good time to be alive, didn't think I'd see another MI in my lifetime. My 12 year old informed me that there's a MI Easter egg on Sea of Thieves and seems to think that some MI content may be added in the future. That would be so cool if they do

The use of incidental sound elevates this to its position as one of the greatest soundtracks in any media. The waves, the creaking timbers, the incessant crickets - they transport you to the location and then let the melody carry you up, down and all around it

The sounds are like drawn out notes in a melody. You don't directly notice it, but when it's gone, the song almost sounds naked. Like a metal band without the drums or bass.
It sets up the track. Even when random. How some can't imagine a multiplayer song without the in game players making noise.
Nostalgia Critic made this point in his top 11 movie themes. In the Rocky theme when he wins, Critic points out it's not the same without a crowd yelling.
You can even have both when they fit, like in The Dig. You can have a water wave in a specific area and still have added echoing cracks in the music itself.
It's still done today and actual songs do it too. No different from a wind breeze through a forest.

@Pierre Theron I never found it annoying in all the many hours I spent playing the game. On the contrary, I enjoyed the way the ambient sound was rhythmically integrated into the music. To me, it's a feature not a bug. Their limitations may not have been technical. Maybe it was budgetary. Or maybe it was simply a creative decision. Whatever the motivation was to do it that way, I absolutely adore the result.

@Richard Silvius Eh, in the end it's not that great because it means the ambient sound is baked into wherever the soundtrack is, so instead of sounding natural it sounds clearly artificial on a timing basis. Whereas normally ambient sound would be set to semi-randomized timings or on a particularly timed loop. This means that whenever you leave and enter a area, the ambient sound is always going to play the same exact parts over and over again with those particular timings, that can make them extremely annoying. It's a good thing CoMI is a short game with a long soundtrack.

It doesn't really elevate it.
It's not like the SCUMM and iMUSE engines couldn't handle it, they just ended up doing it because it was easier and required less sound design in the end, not so much a technical limitation as a time and manpower limitation. Previous SCUMM engine games had separate ambient tracks.

It is incredible, maybe it's the kind of investment they could afford when the genre was still in relative prominence. Escape's soundtrack was ok but an overall letdown in comparison, and Tale's soundtrack was scuppered heavily due to the WiiWare limitations. Here's hoping Return's soundtrack is up to Curse, though I think it's going to blend into the older style of MI1 & 2.

I remember my dad taking me and my brother to get our first video game. Daniel chose Star Wars Phantom Menace, and I kicked up a fuss so dad got me this. Omg, how the hell did they find this!? This is awesome! I can’t believe they managed to find the cutscenes without audio too! And even the normal tracks sound much higher quality, the extra clarity is noticeable. They must’ve managed to track down the original files from the original developers or something, and I commend them for that!

*EDIT:* One interesting fact about this version is its missing some of the sound effects from the original version? Like I swear at the beginning of the main theme you can hear cannons firing and the sound of water splashing, and later on you can hear pirates on the island.

presumably additional sound effects placed on by the game? You obviously don't get the iMUSE layering with this soundtrack either. The international sound of mojo track shows this with the same composition played out three times in a row with different instruments, in game these are smoothly transitioned from one to the other as you get closer to the hut. Same with most of the contiguous areas, the music blends to an equivalent spot in another track.

It may well be that someone worked on this soundtrack and then the release got cancelled when Lucasarts was purchased? Perhaps they had it on a hard drive and decided to leak it.

Ah, nostalgic. I was first introduced to Monkey Island on my father's Amiga 500. This game inspired patience, tenacity, and problem solving to my youthful brain. A reboot of Monkey Island would probably have to incorporate a Breath of the Wild-like interface to surpass what they achieved so many years ago.

Love how in the song at 1:12:56, Guybrush becomes the straight man of the whole joke, trying to break the song to get back to the plot. That shows his character's growth in the third installment. In the first game, he would have joined the other pirates in singing, and wouldn't even try to stop it.
Also, his exhasperated tone is what makes the song for me.

In this game, he's completely done with everyone's stupidity, and it shows in his voice.

As far as I know the game uses hand drawn backgrounds that don't translate well to any remaster... The only way would be to extend the drawings to utilize the modern resolutions but then you are inventing stuff and again, MI3 looks fine the way it is... all a remaster could do is use upgraded sound quality, native modern system support and keep the rest the same..

I don't think that will be suitable for the game, it doesn't need any change imo, I would like a new game like this though. HD would require reworking on most of stuff and I dont think anyone will ever bother do it. It's the best game ever after all :D

Oh man, wouldn’t it be awesome if someone could patch the game to run with this music instead of the lower quality tracks it uses by default? I’m sure it’s somehow possible, I mean if someone could get Lego Island to run 4x higher quality music I’m sure someone could make this game do it too.
