The group was formed in 1988 by singer, songwriter, and keyboard player Jascha Richter (b. 1963) alongside drummer Kare Wanscher (b. 1969), guitarist and producer Mikkel Lentz (b. 1968), and Soren Madsen (b. 1967) in Aarhus, Denmark. The group now consists of three members, with the rest parting ways with Madsen. The group started as a little cafe band, but they soon won the annual talent contest in Aarhus in July 1988. MLTR signed with one of the judges, JP Andersen, as their new manager, and the group got a recording deal with Medley Records, who later became a part of EMI.
MLTR's eponymous first album hit the top 5 of the album charts in both Denmark and Norway, selling tens of thousands of copies over and over again. Since that international debut in September 1991, with 'Michael Learns To Rock' being a sensation, the group has sold more than 12 million legal albums, and it has been performing ever since. Their song catalog continues to be very popular as well, with many singles sold online. Since 'Michael Learns To Rock' came out, they have released 'Colours' (1993), 'Played on Pepper' (1995), 'Nothing to Lose' (1997), 'Michael Learns to Rock - Greatest Hits' (1999), 'Blue Night' (2000), 'Take Me to Your Heart' / 'Michael Learns to Rock' (2004), 'The Best Of Michael Learns To Rock – Live' (2007), and 'Eternity' (2008).
MLTR is one of the most popular bands in their homeland. Thanks to social media such as YouTube and Facebook, MLTR's fan-base continues to grow worldwide. They're unusual for a European group in that they have strong popularity both in Asia (particularly China and India) as well as several Anglo-American nations.

STRANGE FOREIGN BEAUTY
Michael Learns to Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll never know what's in your heart
Does anyone know how it feels to hold you
Does anyone know the secret of your mind
Strange foreign beauty
I'll never come to share your world
Does anyone know how it feels to live with you
Strange foreign beauty
You'll never know what I felt for you
Sometimes it feels like a million chances
Are slipping away disappearing in the air
(You'll) never know what I felt for you
You were always on my mind
(I'll) never know how it feels to hold you
How it feels to be with you
The lyrics to Michael Learns to Rock's "Strange Foreign Beauty" poetically portray a sense of longing and unattainability. The singer is entranced by an enigmatic figure - a "strange foreign beauty" - but is resigned to never truly knowing their heart, mind or world. Despite feeling a deep connection with this person, they acknowledge that they will never have the opportunity to hold or be with them. The lyrics indicate a sense of loss, as the singer believes that their chances of a relationship with this person are slipping away and disappearing.
The song is open to interpretation but can be seen as a representation of the human desire for connection and the pain of unrequited love. The object of the singer's affection is depicted as mysterious and unattainable, echoing the way that people can sometimes idealize those they are attracted to. The repetitious language in the lyrics - using phrases like "strange foreign beauty" and "never know" - adds to the sense of longing and highlights the impossibility of the singer's desires.

It's hard to believe that such videos once existed. So much of decency, clean images, wonderful people, well dressed, wonderful background, happy faces, no booty or slang language...most importantly such a beautiful song....filled with love.
