Like a Thief in the Night
Michael Longo Lyrics

On a rainy night, you showed up at my door
Child of the night, down and forlorn
Still I took you in, it's in the stars above
All girls are made the same, they all need a little love
And the magic of the moment
Exploded with desire
When the time is right, the sparks ignite
And set the night on fire

It's chain lightnin', too hot to fight
Hot on the heels of a Saturday night
Chain lightnin', out of control
Straight to the heart and down to your soul
Chain lightnin', heavens above
Another day older, still searching for love
Chain lightnin, too hot to fight
And it's hotter than hell, in the heavens tonight

I was livin' hard, I was feelin' down and lonely
When toward the boulevard, a limousine moved slowly
And I noticed in the back seat, a lady wrapped in fur
Her eyes burned through me, and mine stared back at her
And I recognized the moment
As I opened up her door
I knew I would regret it
I've been burned before

It's chain lightnin', too hot to fight
Hot on the heels of a Saturday night
Chain lightnin', out of control
Straight to the heart and down to your soul
Chain lightnin', heavens above
Another day older, still searching for love
Chain lightnin, too hot to fight
And it's hotter than hell, in the heavens tonight

And lord it's so hot when the chain reaction
Is set off with a kiss
And it's so tough when the satisfaction
Is greater than the risk
When you look in her eyes and you realize
This time you can't resist

It's chain lightnin'
And the magic of the moment
Exploded with desire
When the time is right the sparks ignite
And set the night on fire
It's chain lightnin', too hot to fight
Hot on the heels of a Saturday night

Chain lightnin', out of control
Straight to the heart and down to your soul
Chain lightnin', heavens above
Another day older, still searching for love
Chain lightnin, too hot to fight

And it's hotter than hell, in the heavens tonight
Chain lightnin'

Overall Meaning

The song "Chain Lightnin'" by Michael Longo tells a story of two different encounters with women on two different nights. The first encounter takes place on a rainy night when a woman shows up at the singer's door looking weary and desolate, and he takes her in. Despite knowing that all women are the same and need love, he also acknowledges the "magic of the moment" when their sparks ignite and set the night on fire. On the other hand, the second encounter happens when the singer is feeling down and lonely and sees a lady in a limousine in the evening. Her eyes captivate him, and when he opens her door, he realizes that he has been here before and regrets it.

The song uses the metaphor of "chain lightning" to capture the intensity and unpredictability of these romantic encounters, which are like sudden surges of electricity that ignite uncontrollably, take over everything in their path and can't be quenched. The lyrics describe the feeling of desire and passion that is greater than reason when two people are in the moment, and neither wants to let go. The singer's voice passionately delivers these lyrics, making the listener feel the heat of the night and the electricity of the moment.

Death stole him away Like A Thief In The Night; Coronavirus victim; RIP good sir.  Excellent music. This is from "900 shares of the blues"...  I have this on "El Moodo Grande"; anybody know: are they both the same album under 2 different names?  Same players... wouldn't be the first time.  Checking further; 900 Shares Of The Blues has 6 cuts on it; El Moodo... has 10.  Cuts are the same & in the same order, though.
