Prologue
Michael McLean & Bryce Neubert Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We have come to tell a story,
We have come to sing the words;
And we hope within each melody
The meaning will be heard.
We could practice for forever,
And we′d still feel unprepared,
For our stories of the greatest love
That ever will be shared.
Though this all will be forgotten
When we're out there on our own,
What we′re singing now perhaps somehow
Will echo in our bones.
As this metaphor's unfolding
Take a look beneath the crust,
For that's where we hope some part of you
Will see yourselves in us,
Who have come to share this story

Just before all memories fade.
But echoing forever that we need not be afraid.

Overall Meaning

The song Prologue is an introductory song performed by Michael McLean & Bryce Neubert, which sets the tone for the entire album. The song is about the power of music in telling stories and conveying emotions. The lyrics suggest that the real meaning of a song lies not just in the words or the melody but in the emotions and memories it evokes. The performers hope that their music will connect with the listeners at a deeper level and that it will resonate with their own experiences.

The song speaks to the transformative power of music, how it can provide comfort and hope, and how it can evoke forgotten memories. The message is that even though the music may be forgotten, it will always leave a lasting impact that will resonate with the listeners long after the performance is over. The metaphor of music as a gateway to emotions is powerful, and the song urges the listeners to look below the surface to find the hidden meanings that lie within.

Overall, Prologue is a song that speaks to the universal language of music and how it can connect people through shared emotions and experiences. It sets the stage for the rest of the album and creates an emotional resonance that will stay with the listeners long after it ends.

This is the most brilliant thing ever made. There is no amount I wouldn't pay to see this performed. It's so powerful with just audio that I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to see it live. What a spiritual masterpiece!! I hope everybody involved in it is incredibly proud of what they have put together. The world would be a darker place without this album in it.

Back in 2005, we gathered a group of church ward members in Ufa, Russia and translated this into Russian, then got permissions from the authors to use the instrumentals to be able to stage it and perform in front of all members of LDS church in Ufa in Russian!
I played "The Gardener", such a great memory of this experience, totally missing it! ❤

Oh man, if someone ever performs this beautiful work live again, I will 100% be there. I used to listen to this CD frequently at the turn of the century and here and there when I would come across it again. I still LOVE IT!!

This album is a powerful metaphor for the Savior and His Atonement. He has not forgotten you. Trust on. Have faith! He will not forsake you!
