Assault Attack
Michael Schenker Group Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You put me down, that's what I said
I hit the clouds and you kicked me in the head
Ain't that a strange thing for you to do I'll never get it now together we were new
I don't need this, you don't want that
I wonder when you're gonna get upon my back
You'd better keep me just while you may
You'd better stick around or get out the way
[Chorus:]
Why don't you want me
You cannot know
Why love me
Then go

Just straighten out your head and mind
Forget about the things that make you draw the line
Don't want to take warnings from you
Can't have much more of this what are you tryin' to do

[Chorus: Repeat 2X]
There's got to be some other way
It's time to work it out
Turn it blue from gray
Your cutting out is cutting in
We have no time to bleed the blood is running thin
I don't need this you don't want that
I wonder where you're gonna get on the track
You'd better keep me just where you may
You'd better stick around until you're on the way

[Chorus: Repeat 2X]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Assault Attack" by Michael Schenker Group depict a tumultuous relationship that seems to be on the brink of collapse. The singer accuses his significant other of putting him down, even kicking him while he's already down ("I hit the clouds and you kicked me in the head"). He's confused by their behavior, pointing out that they were new and happy together at one point, and now they seem to want different things. The singer is frustrated with their partner's indecisiveness ("You don't want that / I wonder when you're gonna get upon my back"), and wants them to either commit to the relationship or walk away. The chorus of the song asks the powerful question of "Why love me then go" as the singer is struggling with the emotional up and down.

The verses of the song illustrate the singer's desire for resolution and clarity. He urges his significant other to "straighten out your head and mind" and move past whatever issues might be driving them apart. He feels like he can't take any more indecision or warning from them, and calls for a change in the way they communicate ("Turn it blue from gray"). Despite his anger, the singer seems to want to salvage the relationship ("There's got to be some other way / It's time to work it out"), but he fears that time is running out and that the relationship will bleed out if action isn't taken soon.

@stratusfractus

Yes, but once you've heard it, it rings in your ear forever, in a good way. It is so energetic!

A classic album for sure. One that should not be missed.

desert song must be one of the best arranged rock tunes in history: cracking bass line

The level of quality of the recording and production of this album unfortunately goes unnoticed by so many rock & metal fans. Love Schenker and everything he did, but this record was THE charm in his career. They just hit the spot perfectly with everything, Bonnet's vocals, the songwriting, the doubled tracks, diatonic 3rd overdubs, the rawness of the way they mic'd the amps, I could go on.. It blew me away when I first heard it waaay back, and it still impresses me the same to this day.
Nice call too ripping this from vinyl 😎
