Je rends mon tablier
Michel Fugain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Puur me cacher je vais chercher

Overall Meaning

Michel Fugain's song Je rends mon tablier is a declaration of independence, sung by someone who is quitting their job and leaving their old life behind. The singer resigns, returning his apron, razor and TV, as well as his driver's license and other documents. He refuses to take any phone calls and won't be answering to anyone. He even wants nobody to come with him when he walks away.

In the second stanza, the singer of the song describes his desired destination. He's looking for a spot deep in the forest to hide out, where he can't be found by authorities or building custodians. He's going to hang out with Tarzan, Jane, and Cheetah, and spend his nights playing games of tag while swinging on vines in the jungle. The singer's ideal location is a place of pure freedom, away from the constraints of society.

In the last stanza, the singer insists that he has nothing to worry about; he will be just fine. He will be lying on a beach somewhere in the tropics, enjoying the Pacific while strumming his guitar. He has heard before that the wild girls have a great talent for keeping things clean without complaining, which will be convenient. The song is an invitation to break free from the restrictions of a structured life and find liberty in nature and ultimately freedom.
