He was bor… Read Full Bio ↴Michel Sardou (born January 26, 1947) is a French singer.
He was born in Paris, the son of Fernand Sardou and Jackie Rollin (Jackie Sardou). Contrary to what has been written at the beginning of his career, he is not the grandson of the dramatist Victorien Sardou.
He is known for songs dealing with various social and political issues, such as the rights of women in Islamic countries, clerical celibacy and colonialism. Another sometimes controversial theme found in some of his songs ("Les Ricains," for example) is respect and support for the culture and foreign policies of the United States. Another notable fact about his career is that he has focused his full attention on his homeland, ignoring the prospect of an international audience, although his 1981 single "Les lacs du Connemara" did manage to become a big international hit. A number of his hit songs were written in collaboration with Jacques Revaux, a few others (most notably "En chantant") with Italian singer Toto Cutugno.
Even in the 21st century, Michel Sardou remains immensely popular in France, selling out 18 consecutive dates at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in 2001, while his 2004 album "Du plaisir" went straight to the no. 1 spot on the French album charts.
He has been married three times, first to a French dancer, then to Babette (the mother of his children) and lastly to an lifelong friend who edits the French version of Vogue.
He is currently (2023) at the center of a controversy over a song he wrote fifty years ago: the lakes of Connemara. Juliette Armanet, a French pop starlet answering a question about a song that would made her leave a party and it was LES LACS DU CONNEMARA. Sardou, an idol of the French right, in spite of himself, is stuck between the left which finds him corny and the right which does not support that one attacks its institutions. Music is a strong force and nobody fights harder than those who LOVE certain songs. Amazingly this song has nothing to do with politics.
Zombi Dupont

Des pas civilisés
Il s'appelait Zombi
Vivait en Australie
Au milieu des palmiers
Sans électricité
Quand L'UNESCO a dit
Il vit dans un taudis
Et complètement à poil
Zombi, viens par ici
Oh la la la la la
Qu'il a dit le sauvage
Vous pas toucher à moi
Moi, très heureux comme ça
Pas changer à mon âge
Moi, plus besoin de rien
Merci, oh merci bien
Ils ont saisi Zombi
L'ont baptisé Dupont
Paul Henri Louis Léon
L'ont immatriculé, tamponné vacciné
Sous les acclamations
Quand l'UNESCO a dit
Cet homme est un scandale
Il faut qu'il soit instruit
À l'école communale
Zombi, viens par ici
Oh la la la la la
Qu'il a dit le sauvage
Vous pas toucher à moi
Moi, très heureux comme ça
Pas changer à mon âge
Moi plus besoin de rien
Merci, oh merci bien
Zombi a tout appris
Zombi a tout gobé
Y compris les souliers
La radio, la télé
Le journal du matin
Le quatre cent vingt et un
Quand l'UNESCO a dit
Cet homme est un scandale
Va chercher ton fusil
La patrie te réclame
Zombi, viens par ici
Oh la la la la la
Qu'il a dit le sauvage
Moi, retourner chez moi
Vivre au milieu des bois
Le reste de mon âge
Moi, pus besoin de rien
Merci et salut bien
Oh la la la la la
Qu'il a dit le sauvage
Moi, retourner chez moi
Vivre au milieu des bois
Le reste de mon âge
Moi, pus besoin de rien
Merci et salut bien
Oh la la la la la
Qu'il a dit le sauvage
Moi, retourner chez moi
Vivre au milieu des bois
Le reste de mon âge
Moi, pus besoin de rien
Merci et salut bien
The song "Zombi Dupont" by Michel Sardou tells the story of a man named Zombi who lived in Australia among palm trees without any electricity, embracing a simple and natural way of life. However, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared him a scandal, noting his living conditions and his nakedness. Zombi refused to change his ways and declared his contentment with his life as it was, saying "Moi très heureux comme ça" (I am very happy like this).
Despite his protests, Zombi was taken by UNESCO, and renamed Dupont, Paul Henri Louis Léon. He was forced to learn new things and live the life that the society had deemed appropriate. He was taught to put on shoes, watch TV, listen to radio, and read the newspaper. Zombi consumed all the information thrown at him, including learning how to shoot a gun when the UNESCO called upon him in a time of need. In the end, he requested to return to his home, where he could once again live among the woods, signifying that his time amongst civilized people was just a deviation from his natural life.
The lyrics of the song Zombi Dupont reflect upon the concept of societal norms and the pressure to conform to ideal behavior. The singer of the song represents a clash between civilization and nature, and the lyrics express the idea that a simple life is also valuable and rewarding. The song also alludes to the idea that social changes can be forced upon individuals through pressure and regulation, but they won't necessarily welcome the change.
