The night being dark and very cold, a woman took pity on a poor old soul
She took pity on a poor old soul and asked him to come in

With a too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, A too-roo roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, And hi for the beggarman

He sat him down in a chimney nook, he hung his coat upon a hook
He hung his coat upon a hook and merrily he did sing

With a too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, A too-roo roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, And hi for the beggarman

In the middle of the night the old woman rose, she missed the beggarman and all his clothes
She clapped and clapped and clapped again, says, "He has me daughter gone"

With a too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, A too-roo roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, And hi for the beggarman

Three long years have passed and gone, when this old man came back again
Asking for a charity: "Would you lodge a beggarman?"

"I never lodged any but the one, and with that one me daughter's gone
With that one me daughter's gone, so merrily you may gang"

With a too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, A too-roo roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, And hi for the beggarman

"Would you like to see your daughter now, with two babies on her knee
With two babies on her knee and another one coming on?"

"For yonder she sits and yonder she stands, the finest lady in all the land
Servants there at her command since she went with the beggarman"

With a too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, A too-roo roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo roo-roo rantin hi, And hi for the beggarman

I wrote the lyrics I understood from the song, it goes something like this:

Verse 1:
The night being dark and very cold
A woman took pity on a poor old soul
She took pity on a poor old soul
And asked him to come in

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

Verse 2:
He hung his clothes upon a hook
And sat him by a chimney nook
She sat him by a chimney nook
And merrily they did sing

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

Verse 3:
In the middle of the night the old woman rose
She missed the Beggarman and all his clothes
She clapped and clapped and clapped again
Say “he’s with me daughter gone”

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

Verse 4:
And now seven long years were past and gone
When this old man came back again
Asking for a charity
“would you give to a Beggarman?”

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

Verse 5:
“Would you like to see your daughter now?
With two babies on her knee
With two babies on her knee
And another one coming on”

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

Verse 6:
For yonder sits and yonder stands
The fines lady in all the land
Servants there at her command
Since she went with the Beggarman

Chorus:
With a too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
A too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
Too-roo-roo-roo rantin hi
And a hi for the Beggarman

@Xemeets94

Man these shanties get to me. Feeling a bit Irish.

Songs hit different

@jamesdenoia

This sounds more like a Tavern Song cause shanties don't have actual music

@jamesdenoia

okapilovers 2 then why is tavern music on a sea shanty edition soundtrack

@remyfromratmoviebuthuman4282

James Denoia because shanty is another word music sheet

@CryoFreezr

@@remyfromratmoviebuthuman4282 only one issue. It still isn't a shanty as that's going against the actual definition of shanties or "chanties". Surely a folk song but not really a shanty. By definition - "A sea shanty, chantey, or chanty is a genre of traditional folk song that was once commonly sung as a work song to accompany rhythmical labor aboard large merchant sailing vessels." so a shanty is supposed to be a song whose "core definition is a song that was sung using specific rhythms and created for a specific job."
Compared to a folk song or a sailing song.
It's only called shanty due to simplification but the singers here (atleast Nils Brown and Sean Dagher) would themselves agree that it's a maritime song not a shanty

@remyfromratmoviebuthuman4282

@@CryoFreezr touch some grass comment is like a year old you wasted your time telling me what I already know

@victordedvukaj5098

I mean as far as singing alone the shanties are completely Untouchable to the modern music again as far as singing alone

@RorytheRomulan

Just something I can't get past when hearing this song: "Soon as you left, my daughter went missing, why would I trust you?" "Oh, your daughter who you love more than anything? Yeah, she ran off with me and we have kids now. It's fine."

@TheManofthecross

+Hbh128 how does that not get past you? it is used in shanty in a harmless way I think. :O
