Read Full Bio ↴Michigan were a Swedish synthpop band who were active from 1999 to 2016.
It started out back in the early 90's, when Jonas and Peter met up with Jesper to share and talk about "synth-music". They got together, started writing songs all just for fun, and recorded some demos that they have up to date kept for themselves. They really didn't take anything that seriously, they just liked to make some good noise from the keyboards.
This went on for a couple of years, but in 1999 it was decided that they should go into a studio and make a demo wich featured the song "Miseries" among a couple of others. At that stage they hadn't decided wich one of them who would be the lead singer of the band. After a little twisting and turning it was to be found that Peter Ehn was the right choice. And today, Peter, with his warmth and depth, really brings out the best of the songs. Nothing happend with the demo, but they decided to go for it again, at Crimson Productions.
Jonas had been away for half a year, but came home with some fresh ideas that was put together in the computer. So they recorded "So Astray," "Want, Need, Me," and "Domination" and came in contact with the record label of Memento Materia. They invited the guys to a contest, where the winner would end up with a contract. And as it turned out well they were signed by Memento Materia from then on.
In autumn 2002, the first album "Graceful And In Sin" was finished, and has been out on the market since the 27th of Jan 2003. In 2004 firstly a CDM called "Red Dawn" was released followed by their second album "Ultimate Sky". After signing up with Infacted Recordings they re-released that album in 2005 with three additional bonus tracks.
Michigan disbanded in 2016, with Jonas Öberg continuing as Modular State.

In the corner of the street
We used to live there
In this tainted land
I am longing in my head
And my feet
You look so sweet to me
We're praying to the stars
Travelling by car
You look so sweet to me
My pretty little child
The gravity
Is what keeps you down
It's time again
I am drowning in town
Oh yes I'm sinking
There's a lot of pain
Even more than I can take
Or pay for
I hate it all
You look so sweet to me
So pretty in the night
We're praying to the stars
Travelling by car
You look so sweet to me
My pretty little child
The gravity
Is what keeps you down
Pretty in the night
Travelling by car
You look so sweet to me
So pretty in the night
We're Praying to the stars
Travelling by car
You look so sweet to me
My pretty little child
The gravity
Is what keeps you down
Pretty in the night
Travelling by car
Pretty in the night
The lyrics of Michigan's song "The Gravity" depict a scene of longing and nostalgia, as the singer stands on the corner of a street where they used to live. The land is tainted, leaving the singer feeling the weight of the past and the effects of the world on their psyche. The singer is plagued by a sense of sinking and drowning in a town full of pain that they hate. The lyrics create an atmosphere of wistfulness and melancholy, with a longing for something better and a sense of being trapped by gravity, unable to escape the weight of their circumstances.
The song seems to be about a relationship or connection with someone, likely a child or significant other, who offers the singer a sense of sweetness and comfort in the midst of their struggles. The image of them travelling by car and praying to the stars implies a sense of adventure and hope, a desire for escape from their circumstances. Yet, the gravity of their situation keeps them rooted to the ground, unable to escape the pain and weight of their reality.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Gravity" by Michigan paint a picture of conflicted emotions and a sense of longing for something better. The song speaks to the human experience of being weighed down by life's struggles, yet finding moments of sweetness and hope in the midst of it all.
