Members were Al DeLoner (born Atle Byström), Paal Flaata and Ron Olsen.
Midnight Choir were founded - as Hashbrowns - in 1992.
The band's name stems from the Leonard Cohen song "Bird on the Wire".
The 1998 album "Amsterdam Stranded" won the band a best rock album of the year award in their native Norway.
Besides producing Midnight Choir's albums, Chris Eckman also collaborated with Midnight Choir member Al DeLoner, under the common project name Höst. Höst released one album, "The damage suite", in 2001.
Midnight Choir split in 2004 with the individual band members pursuing solo careers afterwards. 2005 saw the release of a double best of album called "All tomorrow's tears: The best of Midnight Choir".
Unsung Heroine
Midnight Choir Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And think of you my child
I open up to something new
There ain't no need to cry
These are the days where love will find
A new heart beating next to mine
These are the days where love will find
A new heart beating next to mine
And I'll put my trust once again in love before I go
The opening lines of "Unsung Heroine" by Midnight Choir paint a picture of a person walking down obscure streets while reminiscing about their child. It's unclear why the singer is on Unsung Streets, but it could indicate a period of self-discovery, where they are forced to confront the impossible task of raising a child, and the consequences of their actions. When the singer says, "I open up to something new, there ain't no need to cry," they signal their willingness to open themselves up to new experiences, but not at the expense of grieving for their lost child. Perhaps the singer is coming to terms with a painful separation from their child, their child's passing, or the realization that they could have done more as a parent, but is now determined to make changes that will create a new foundation for love.
The chorus is particularly poignant as the singer urges us to keep our hearts open, assuring us that "These are the days where love will find a new heart beating next to mine." It's an inspiring message of hope, especially for anyone who's trying to pick up the pieces after a difficult break-up or loss. The singer speaks to the resilience of human love, and the inevitability of finding someone new, as long as we don't lose faith in ourselves, or fall into bitterness and despair. The last line, "And I'll put my trust once again in love before I go," is echoed throughout the song, underscoring the central theme of the song, which is that while love comes with the risk of disappointment, it's still worth pursuing.

I walk upon Unsung Streets
I wander through quiet, unnoticed roads
And think of you my child
And my thoughts turn to you, my dear offspring
I open up to something new
I embrace the chance of something different
There ain't no need to cry
No reason to shed tears
These are the days where love will find
Now is the time for affection to find
A new heart beating next to mine
Someone new to share my pulse with
And I'll put my trust once again in love before I go
And I will have faith in love one more time before departing
