Fortune
Migala Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There are two men, hardened and drunk. They walk by the wet roads of tonight. They try to march like ladies for a woman that follows them glad.
Was that night so violently cold, we thought the wind was howling for us.You looked at me, smiling and a desert reflects on your sight.
Please, please, love, be with me along 'til I become a lady like that! She never knew but that was the fortune's show of our last.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Migala's song Fortune tell a story of two men who are walking down wet roads while intoxicated. They try to walk like ladies for a woman who seems to be following them with joy. The night is violently cold and the wind seems to be howling just for them. As they walk, one of them looks at the other with a smile, and sees a reflection of the desert in his eyes. The person who is smiling then pleads with their love to stay with them until they become as graceful as the lady they are trying to mimic. However, the lady never knew that she was part of the fortune's show, as it was the last time the two were together.

The lyrics seem to explore themes of desperation, longing, and self-improvement. The two men, in their drunken state, are trying to impress a woman who may not even be aware of their presence. One of them seems to be seeking reassurance and validation from their lover, hoping that their love will remain by their side until they can become as graceful as the woman they are trying to mimic. However, the line "she never knew but that was the fortune's show of our last" seems to suggest that this night was the last time they were together, and the fact that the woman does not even know about their presence underscores the desperation and disappointment of the situation.

This is an incredibly beautiful song. I've been listening to "Arde" since about 2000 or 2001 when I first discovered this band. The combination of imagery and words evokes some very strong emotions. But I was wondering if anybody has an idea of what some of the lyrics mean. To an English-speaker, even the title is a bit mysterious, I'm not sure if it's a translation thing, or it was purposefully written that way. Does anybody have any ideas?
