Howl
Mighty Oaks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The wolves out here they used to run in packs
But they were killed off by all the traps
And they no longer howl at night

And people round these parts, they fear the night
And everything that's out of sight
It's an awful way to live a life.
And only if we could follow all our dreams
We would find out what it all means
To live a life with no fear

We think we found a way to rule the world
But we don't know the boys and the girls
That dream the dreams that we do on the other side

The wolves, they howl no more

The wolves, they howl no more
The wolves, they howl no more

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Mighty Oaks’s “Howl” talks about the wolves that used to run in packs in the area. The wolves were “killed off by all the traps,” hence they no longer howl at night. This could symbolize the violence and danger humans have brought to the world, ultimately resulting in the loss of many creatures that once roamed free. The second stanza reveals that the people living in the area are afraid of the night because they are scared of everything that’s out of sight. It’s a life filled with fear, and it’s an awful way to live. However, the last stanza gives some hope. If we could follow all our dreams, we could find out what it all means, to live a life without fear.
