Miguel Aceves Mejía, or "the King of the falsetto" as he was popularly known, was born in Ciudad Juárez in the state of Chihuahua. He became a popular Mexican film star during its golden age and was widely regarded for his interpretations of various Mexican musical folkloric genres, particularly the ranchera.
Originally part of a traveling theater company, Aceves Mejía began recording for the first time in 1938 with the trio Los Porteños. At the beginning of his career he interpreted mainly boleros, tangos, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. During his career he recorded more than 1000 songs on 90 discs and starred in over 60 films.
Among his greatest hits are La Barca de Guaymas, El Pastor, La del Rebozo Blanco, Se Me Hizo Fácil, Yo Tenía un Chorro de Voz, Vaya con Dios, La Malagueña Salerosa, El Jinete, El Crucifijo de Piedra and Cuatro Caminos. He was noted for composing such songs as El Pescado Nadador and O, Gran Dios, even though his forté was primarily as a singer in his own right.
In 1945 he began dedicating himself solely to singing and, following the deaths of Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete, ventured into the world of cinema.
In 1959 he appeared in Amor se dice cantando.
He died just a few days short of his 91st birthday on November 6, 2006 in Mexico City. As is tradition in Mexico, his body lay in state in the Palacio de las Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) in Mexico City. This honour is reserved for only the greatest Mexican singers, writers, composers, sculptors and painters.

Debajo de esas dos cejas
Debajo d esas dos cejas
Que bonitos ojos tienes
Ellos me quieren mirar
Pero si tu no los dejas
Pero si tu no los dejas
Ni siquiera parpadear
Besar tus labios quisiera
Besar tus labios quisiera
Malagueña salerosa
Y decirte niña hermosa
Que eres linda y hechicera
Que eres linda y hechicera
Como el candor de una rosa
Si por pobre me desprecias
Yo te concedo razón
Yo te concedo razón
Si por pobre me desprecias
Yo no te ofrezco riquezas
Te ofrezco mi corazon
Te ofrezco mi corazon
A cambio de mis pobrezas
Malagueña salerosa
Besar tus labios quisiera
Besar tus labios quisiera
Malagueña salerosa
Y decirte niña hermosa
Que eres linda y hechicera
Eres linda y hechicera
Como el candor de una rosa
Como el candor de una rosa
These lyrics belong to the song “La Malagueña” by Miguel Aceves Mejía. The Malagueña is a traditional song from the Spanish region of Andalusia. It is a symbol of Mexican folk music and culture, and is commonly sung at celebrations such as weddings and quinceañeras. The song tells the story of a man admiring a woman's beauty and offering her his heart in exchange for her love.
The first verse starts with a compliment to the woman's beautiful eyes. The man expresses his desire to look into her eyes, but acknowledges that he cannot do so without her permission. The second verse continues with the singer's infatuation, revealing his wish to kiss the woman and express his admiration for her beauty. The third verse addresses any potential concerns the woman may have about the man's wealth, stating that he doesn't have riches to offer her, but he can offer his heart in exchange.
Overall, “La Malagueña” captures the romantic essence of Mexican folk music, with its passionate lyrics and traditional instrumentation. The song has been adapted and performed by many artists, and remains a classic Mexican folk song to this day.
