Becoming involved in music since he was 15, in 1979 he and his brother Alejandro formed underground rock band ZAS. The following year he managed to contact Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and gain a spot on stage as the opening act for the British group for their Buenos Aires concerts. He turned ZAS into one of the most important argentine rock bands of the early 80s.
In 1986, Mateos recorded in the United States his first solo album (officially, but in practice he still used members of ZAS as supporting band). With a much more polished sound, and greater pop accessibility than the ZAS works, Mateos jumped on the crest of the wave of Argentine rock acts that dominated the 1986-1988 period all over Latin America, Spain, and elsewhere.
Solos en América was considered a watershed album containing cuts that would become classics of Rock en Español from that time, including the homonymous track, "Cuando Seas Grande", and "Mi Sombra en la Pared".
Riding a wave of massive popularity in Mexico, Mateos introduced the slogan "Rock en tu Idíoma" (Rock In Your Language) in 1987. He began touring that nation, introducing along the way local acts such as Caifanes and Maldita Vecindad, among others. All those groups would become major acts in their own right within a short period. In the 1987-1988 Mateos would tour Latin America to sell-out stadiums.[1] He was among the first Rock en Español acts to receive active support from fledgling MTV International.
The 1990s would be a period of continued solo success for Mateos and his now adult-pop rock music across the Spanish-speaking world, though ironically he would drop off somewhat in popularity in his homeland. In general, what in the rest of Latin America is considered rock, in Argentina tends to be seen as pop. This has sometimes led to cultural confusion about how to categorize the current Miguel Mateos musical output, as outside Argentina Mateos remains an iconic figure of the Rock en Español movement.
Mateos went on the so-called first Rock en Español tour of the United States in 1990, where he was awared the Bravo Musical Award. He released Bar Imperio in 1998 and after a hiatus released Uno in 2005.
Cuando Vengas A Verme
Miguel Mateos Lyrics

Me devuelvas
Roto el corazón
Verás pintada en
Rojo las paredes
Y en el baño
Una bomba molotov
Esperar y esperar
Nada nena, nena
El primer mundo
No anda bien tener
Un trabajo y una cerveza
Asegurada y las manos limpias
Para tocarte el alma
Hoy cuando vengas a verme
Y con la noche arrodillada
Volaremos sobre le guerra
Hasta el ghetto
Y su violenta madrugada
Arrojando panes de oro y música
Entonces la ternura
Volverá a estar de nuestro lado
Y haremos el amor desnudos
Sobre vidrios rotos
"Un pueblo callado
Es un pueblo dominado"
Recuérdamelo cuando diga que te amo
Hoy cuando vengas a verme
The song "Cuando Vengas A Verme" by Miguel Mateos is a powerful plea for love and connection in a world of violence, oppression, and inequality. The lyrics speak of the pain and heartbreak of a broken relationship, where the singer is left with nothing but a shattered heart and a sense of injustice. The walls are painted red, a symbol of blood and anger, while in the bathroom there is a Molotov bomb, a clear sign of rebellion and resistance.
The singer then addresses broader societal issues, criticizing the emptiness of the first world with its beer and guaranteed jobs. He speaks of the need to touch people's souls, to find meaning and purpose beyond the materialistic and superficial aspects of life. The second verse takes the song into the streets, where people are struggling to survive amidst violence and poverty. The singer offers hope, promising to fly away with his lover to a place of beauty and music, where tenderness and love can once again thrive.
The song ends with a reminder that silence is a form of complicity, and that we must always be willing to speak up against injustice and oppression. Overall, "Cuando Vengas A Verme" is a passionate and heartfelt song that captures many of the struggles and contradictions of our modern world.

Cuando vengas hoy a verme
When you come to see me today
Me devuelvas
You return to me
Roto el corazón
My heart shattered
Verás pintada en
You will see painted in
Rojo las paredes
Red walls
Y en el baño
And in the bathroom
Una bomba molotov
A Molotov bomb
Esperar y esperar
To wait and wait
Para nunca tener
To never have
Nada nena, nena
Nothing, baby, baby
El primer mundo
The first world
No anda bien tener
It's not good to have
Un trabajo y una cerveza
A job and a beer
Asegurada y las manos limpias
Assured and clean hands
Para tocarte el alma
To touch your soul
Hoy cuando vengas a verme
Today when you come to see me
Y con la noche arrodillada
And with the night kneeling
Volaremos sobre le guerra
We will fly over the war
Hasta el ghetto
To the ghetto
Y su violenta madrugada
And its violent dawn
Arrojando panes de oro y música
Throwing bread of gold and music
Entonces la ternura
Then tenderness
Volverá a estar de nuestro lado
Will be on our side again
Y haremos el amor desnudos
And we will make love naked
Sobre vidrios rotos
On broken glass
"Un pueblo callado
"A silent people
Es un pueblo dominado"
Is a dominated people"
Recuérdamelo cuando diga que te amo
Remember me when I say I love you
Hoy cuando vengas a verme
Today when you come to see me
