Kids
Mika Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The kids are playing in the sun
They think their life has just begun
For them it's just another day
Playing games all the kids would play
There won't be a me and you
If we keep on fighting like we do
Baby please don't walk away,
Saying things only kids would say
Kids, what do they know about loving now
Loving, loving you here and I love when you're gone
Just another can't find the way

Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for
Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for

You shout with nothing to say
And fight til you get your way
It hurts but what can I do,
I won't turn into working tool
Kids, what do they know about loving now
Loving, loving you here and I love when you're gone
Just another can't find the way

Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for
Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for

You're playing in my ...sun
You're thinking life has just begun
You're throwing all my love away
Just another California day

Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for

Take your care boots on, this is love long gone
Give a piece of trust, make it worth fighting for.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mika's song "Kids" expresses a feeling of nostalgia towards the lost innocence and simplicity of youth. It inspires the thought that we could be learning a lot from the children because they do not hold grudges or fight, and they only know games and fun. The song is essentially about a couple who is fighting and the singer is wondering why they can’t behave like the children. The line "There won't be a me and you, If we keep on fighting like we do, Baby please don't walk away, Saying things only kids would say" depicts the singer imploring the other person to not walk away but instead to deal with the conflict in a more child-like manner.

The chorus "Kids, what do they know about loving now, Loving, loving you here and I love when you're gone, Just another can't find the way" is a thought-provoking description of love- using the word “kids” in the chorus to allude to the fact that children have little to no idea what love is. It also highlights the frustration and inconsistency of love where you love the person when they are around but once they are gone, you forget the feeling. The last verse, "You're playing in my...sun, You're thinking life has just begun, You're throwing all my love away, Just another California day" depicts how the singer has given the other person the power to control his emotions and that causes him pain.

"Kids" gave me so many chills, its hard to choose a favorite song from the album because they all give an emotional feeling but this one even gave me a physical one, its just THAT good.

I still see Mika as that curly haired person who sang 'Love today' and bent backward so much that I actually felt jealous, tried it, and almost fractured/broke something.
