Apparently Florence Henderson realized from the fan mail she was getting that "Carol Brady" became a beloved member of children all over the US.
And more than likely when a child recognized her when she was in public,
she realized that the child held her in a special place in their mind and therefore she did her best to show serious affection to any child who recognized.
There are celebrities or famous people that do and did this.
Jackie Kennedy, Barbara Bush, and Nancy Reagan would write back to people who wrote to them. Jackie Kennedy personally responded to everyone who wrote to her
to say how sorry they felt that she lost her husband. It took a while but she did it.
Charlie Sheen always gives his autograph to anyone who asks for it when he's recognized. Although he loves baseball he had to stop going to baseball games,
because the entire time he was there, kids would come to him and ask him to sign their baseball and he could not turn them down,
because the child would think about that for the rest of his life.
Leonard Nimoy personally responded to letters that were written to him when he was in "Star Trek",
until it became impossible due the volume of mail he got, so he hired someone to keep up with it. His kids would bring home school mates who wanted to meet him.
Nimoy when he was a kid, tried once when he saw Danny Kaye to get his autograph.
The guy who escorted Kaye said, "Get lost kid." And he swore at the moment that if he ever became famous he would give his autograph to anyone who asked for it.
He tried that until it became impossible.
Peter Falk always gave an autograph upon request. I wrote to him as a child and asked him for it and he sent an embossed photo with the autograph.
Mary Tyler Moore was always very nice to anyone who recognized her.
People come up to Woody Allen when he's walking with his wife in NYC and start up a conversation with him. Sometimes the person let's him know that they are actors
and ask if he would have a small part for him or her in his next film.
"By chance" the person just happens to have their acting credits on paper with their telephone number and address.
He then goes Juliet Taylor, his casting director and asks to do what she can and the person gets a small part and they can write in their Resümee they were in a Woody Allen film.
He said that's the reason why he never does casting for his films or is even present when it's taking place because he would just give a job to everybody.
He knows most of them are struggling and hoping for their big break.
Allan Alda always gives his autograph upon request but he's feels funny about it, because the person is elevating him above the person who is asking for it.
Sylvester Stallone always greets people when they cry out "Rocky."
I met a Taxi Driver who picked Keith Richards up in Stuttgart Germany. Richards realized right away that the driver recognize him and sat in front passenger seat.
Richards told him had to go to a concert hall away because the limo didn't show up. The driver talked with him and Richards was very nice.
When they got to the concert hall Richards realized the guy wanted his autograph but was afraid to ask for it. So Richards asked him if he wanted it and he wrote real nice on piece of paper for him. He gave him a hundred on a twenty dollar fare.
Another taxi driver I met told me he picked up Elizabeth Taylor at the airport. She was with another woman. Taylor talked with and answered his question about her films.
He saw all of them and she liked that. He said she went above and beyond and gave him not only her autograph, but the biggest tip he ever got in his life.

He kind of sounds like the Sicilian in The Princess Bride. "Inconceivable!"
