Up There Cazaly
Mike Brady Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But on weekends comes the time
You can do what ever turns you on
Get out and clear your mind
Me, I like football
And there's a lot of things around
But when you line 'em up together
The footy wins hands down
Up there cazaly, in there and fight
Out there and at 'em, show 'em your might
Up there cazaly, don't let 'em in
Fly like an angel, you're out there to win
Now there's a lot more things to football
That really meets the eye
There are days when you could give it up
There are days when you could fly
You either love or hate it
Depending on the score
But when your team run out or they kick a goal
How's the mighty roar (hooray, hooray)
Up there cazaly, in there and fight
Out there and at 'em, show 'em your might
Up there cazaly, don't let 'em in
Fly like an angel, you're out there to win
Up there cazaly, you're out there to win
In there and at 'em, don't let 'em in
Up there cazaly, show 'em you're high
Fight like the devil, the crowds on your side
Ahhh...
Up there cazaly, in there and fight
Out there and at 'em, show 'em you're might
Up there cazaly, show 'em you're high
Fight like the devil, the crowd's on your side
The - crowd's - on - your - side...
The song "Up There Cazaly" by Mike Brady is an iconic Australian football anthem that captures the passion and excitement of the sport. The lyrics refer to the notion of going to work during the weekdays to earn a living, but getting the chance on weekends to do what you are passionate about and clear your mind. For the songwriter, that passion is football, and he acknowledges that there are many other things in life, but when it comes to the sport, it wins hands down!
The chorus of the song is an exhilarating call-to-arms, encouraging players to go out there and give it their all. It speaks to the importance of hard work, determination, and team spirit. The phrase, "Up There Cazaly," is a reference to the renowned Australian footballer, Roy Cazaly, who played in the early 20th century. He was known for his courage and perseverance, traits that are embodied in the lyrics of the song.
The song's verses offer an insight into the highs and lows of the sport— the days when you feel like giving up, the days when you feel like you can fly, and the emotional rollercoaster of loving or hating the game, depending on the score. But ultimately, it’s about the joy and satisfaction of coming together with your team to achieve victory.
Overall, "Up There Cazaly" is much more than just a sports anthem. It has become a symbol of the Australian spirit, unity, and passion for life that transcends the football field.
