Sincerely Me
Mike Faist Ben Platt & Will Roland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We've been way too out of touch
Things have been crazy
And it sucks that we don't talk that much
But I should tell you that I think of you each night
I rub my nipples and start moaning with delight
Why would you write that?
I'm just trying to tell the truth
This needs to be perfect these emails have to prove that we were actually friends
Just I'll do it
I've gotta tell you, life without you has been hard (Hard?)
Has been bad (Bad?)
Has been rough (Kinky!)
And I miss talking about life and other stuff
Very specific Shut up!
I like my parents
Who says that?
I love my parents but each day's another fight
If I stop smoking drugs
Then everything might be alright
Smoking drugs? (Just fix it!)
If I stop smoking crack (Crack?!)
If I stop smoking pot
Then everything might be alright
I'll take your advice
I'll try to be more nice
I'll turn it around
Wait and see
'Cause all that it takes is a little reinvention
It's easy to change if you give it your attention
All you gotta do is just believe you can be who you want to be
Sincerely, Me
Are we done yet?
Well I can't just give them one email I want to show that I was, like, a good friend, you know?
Oh my god
Dear Connor Murphy, Yes, I also miss our talks
Stop doing drugs Just try to take deep breaths and go on walks (no)
I'm sending pictures of the most amazing trees (No)
You'll be obsessed with all my forest expertise (Absolutely not)
Dude, I'm proud of you
Just keep pushing through
You're turning around
I can see
Just wait and see!
'Cause all that it takes is a little reinvention
It's easy to change if you give it your attention
All you gotta do is just believe you can be who you want to be
Sincerely, Me
My sister's hot
What the hell! (My bad)
Dear Evan Hansen,
Thanks for every note you send
Dear Connor Murphy,
I'm just glad to be your friend
Our friendship goes beyond
Your average kind of bond
But not because we're gay
No, not because we're gay
We're close, but not that way
The only man that I love is my dad
Well anyway!
You're getting better every day
I'm getting better every day
We're getting better every day
Hey hey hey hey!
'Cause all that it takes is a little reinvention
It's easy to change if you give it your attention
All you gotta do is just believe you can be who you want to be
Sincerely
Miss you dearly
Sincerely, Me
Sincerely, Me
Sincerely, Me
Sincerely, Me
The song "Sincerely Me" is a conversation between Evan Hansen and Connor Murphy, two high school students who are not close friends but are brought together by an unfortunate event. The song is presented as a fake letter exchange between the two, as Evan tries to fabricate a friendship between them in order to gain sympathy and popularity after Connor's death. At the same time, Connor's character is depicted as a troubled boy who struggles with addiction and mental health issues. The lyrics also touch upon themes of loneliness, self-acceptance, and the pressure to conform.
The opening lyrics "Dear Evan Hansen, we've been way too out of touch" sets the tone for the rest of the song. It portrays how Evan is trying to fake a relationship with Connor in order for him to seem more likable to his peers. Additionally, the line "I rub my nipples and start moaning with delight" is meant to be funny, but it also speaks to how far Evan is willing to go to establish this fake friendship. The conversation between the two boys is highlighted by Evan's bizarre confessions, such as "I like my parents" and "My sister's hot," which are meant to make the emails seem more authentic.

I love the
"Dear Evan Hansen thanks for every note you sent"line choreography.(the little punches Connor gives to Evan)
Even though it's meant to be interpreted as Connor being playful as friends would do,
I personally like to see it a Connor simply being passive agressive,as if his spirit could see them and being aware Evan is spitting utter bullshit but playing along with it.
In a kind of
" No you you fucking didn't but ok "
And as if in this song it is actually Connors spirit and he is just being passive agressive about the whole thing (like mocking them about what they are writing about him)and while on that he is getting a kick out of it.
@Zephilion
You know its kinda upsetting that the version of Conner the audience falls inlove with isn't even real. Like he's not Conner, he's what Evan and Jared think Conner would be like.
@averagejoey2000
it's the point
@batataverde6453
The true Connor probably wouldn't be lovable
@insanegecko
Exactly ! I love Connor sm:(
