Overall Meaning

As the lyrics to Wonderful Land by Mike Oldfield are instrumental, there are no specific words to interpret. However, the music itself can evoke various emotions and mental images in the listener. The song begins with a calm and dreamy guitar melody, slowly building up with the addition of other instruments such as strings, drums, and bells. The composition creates a sense of adventure and wonder, like a musical journey to a magical land.

The music of Wonderful Land can also be associated with the beauty of nature and the freedom of imagination. The way the melody flows and changes throughout the piece can be compared to the changing landscapes and moods of a natural setting. Some listeners may hear the song as a tribute to the beauty of the Earth or a personal meditation on the wonders of existence.

In terms of musical composition, Wonderful Land showcases Oldfield's skills as a multi-instrumentalist and his knack for creating complex and intricate arrangements. The song features an impressive range of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion, and orchestral elements. The use of layering and dynamics creates a compelling soundscape that draws the listener in and keeps them engaged throughout the piece.

How is the original author of this piece not mentioned at all? Francisco Tárrega deserves all the credit for his RECUERDOS DE LA ALHAMBRA..

Sailor Amarok

Mike Oldfield DID give Francisco Tárrega full credit. Just look at the credits for this song:

written by Francisco Tárrega, arranged by Mike Oldfield

IIRC This was partially done on a Fairlight. Great haunting piece, that moves to liberating with the same tune. Mike has a way with build up and crescendo that no one else can do.
