One of the best films ever. In my top 10. Treasure of the Sierra Madre is also there. I've seen both several times.

This is a fantastic film. Both of 'em should have gotten an Oscar for it. Deborah Kerr was amazing. And their chemistry was there all the way through. A true classic.

This was a wonderful Movie. Thank God Brando did not get this role.

@MajesticManabe

Agree with every sentiment - including Mitchum trouncing McQueen. BTW, you have a great voice and should do audiobooks.

Have seen this film numerous times (starting back when I was a kid)......Recently found and bought the original book (from 1952, by Australian author Charles Shaw) too, that the film was based on...very interesting to compare the two :)
Eg. The book is set in the Philippines, not near Fiji........Sr Angela is Canadian in the book, not Irish.......Allison is from Cincinnati in the book, not Milwaukee :)

I am a Robert Mitchum fan. You (Mike) mention that the Allison movie was the first Mitchum movie you member watching. Have you since gone back and seen any of his earlier work? Allison was the first MItchum movie I saw and I was driven to then watch many of his older movies. He developed a great deal (as most actors do) as they bring new experiences, maturity, and gravitas to their films. My insight: The Allison film I see a Mitchum playing a truly different character than he had played up to that point. The previous ones were more similar. I think Allison is one of his VERY finest roles. He was nominated for an Oscar for one of his early pics ... GI Joe ... but didn't win. I think he should have been nominated for Allison. Interested to hear your thoughts...

@buddydav1

Beautiful movie. And yes, Bob Mitchum is cooler than McQueen, in a photo finish.

Thanks for the review.

There was an ending to this movie that was never shown, the original ending. Mitchum goes to convent after the war, to look for Kerr
