Do you recall?
I told you
We would end up saying goodbye
Before you, try to shoot me out of the sky

In "31 Minutes to Takeoff," Mike Posner reminisces about a past relationship that he knew was destined to fail from the start. He asks his former partner if they recall their conversations where he predicted the inevitable end of their romance. Posner knew that sooner or later, they'd have to say goodbye. In the chorus, he sings about the pain of a break-up, and the fear of being left alone. He knows that he will soon feel the effect of his partner's departure, and that the pain will be hard to ignore.
However, the most poignant verse occurs when Posner sings, "And it won't be long/ Before you, try to shoot me out of the sky." This line depicts a person's attempt to tear down another from the height of their success or happiness. Posner understands that his success could be seen as a threat to his former lover and that they may become jealous or resentful. It's not uncommon for an ex-partner to become envious of the other's accomplishments, and Posner knows that he could soon be a victim of that very behavior.
In conclusion, "31 Minutes to Takeoff" is a moving pop ballad about the pain of letting go of a relationship that was doomed from the start. Posner reflects on his fear of being left alone, and his partner's potential jealousy as he continues to thrive. The song is a moving portrayal of love and heartbreak that many can relate to.
