In Mike Posner feat. Clinton Sparks’ song Close The Door, the lyrics speak to a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. The first verse contains the lines “Goodbye to the old me, goodbye to the minutes, and seconds and hours” which suggests leaving behind old habits and ways of being in exchange for a fresh start. The phrases “Hello to the new me, I like how this feels” is a celebratory stance of embracing the changes in oneself.
The chorus then repeats “Close the door, close the door” as a symbol of shutting out past experiences and negativity. The repetition emphasizes the importance of fully letting go in order to move forward towards a new and better self. The overall message of the song is one of self-love and empowerment, allowing for a willingness to recognize the need for change and ultimately being able to choose to embrace it.
