Cooler Than Me
Mike Posner Lyrics

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this
But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me
You got designer shades just to hide your face
And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me
And you never say hey, or remember my name
And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me

You got your high brow, shoes on your feet
And you wear 'em around like it ain't shit
But you don't know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise

Shh, I got you all figured out
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all-of my tricks, I hope that you like this
But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me
You got designer shades just to hide your face
And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me
And you never say hey, or remember my name
And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me

You got your high brow, switchin' your walk
And you don't even look when you pass by
But you don't know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise

Shh, I got you all figured out
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are

'Cause it's your scene (it's your scene)
You got no doubt
But-we all see
You got your head in the clouds

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all-of my tricks, I hope that you like this
But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me
You got designer shades just to hide your face
And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me

And you never say hey, or remember my name
And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me

Overall Meaning

"Cooler Than Me" by Mike Posner is a witty and catchy song that explores the superficiality and arrogance of a girl who thinks she's cooler than the singer. The lyrics make it clear that the girl is trying too hard to be cool, wearing designer shades and shoes, and walking with an overly confident strut. But Posner sees through her facade - he believes she wears her sunglasses to hide her face and uses her outfit as a way to make others feel inferior.

Posner's insight into the girl's character is shown in the line "You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen". He knows that the girl is insecure and that her whole persona is a performance designed to garner attention. He then proceeds to question her sense of self-importance and identity. The line "Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are, who do you think that you are" is an accusation that she's hiding behind her makeup and clothes, and that the person she presents outwardly doesn't match who she is on the inside.

In a way, Posner is offering the girl a wake-up call to her own self-importance. He's telling her that he sees right through her and that her attempts to be cool are rather shallow. It's a neat twist on traditional love songs, where usually the singer romanticizes the object of his affection. Posner isn't trying to woo her; instead, he's pointing out her flaws in a mildly critical way. Still, there's an underlying playfulness to the song that keeps it lighthearted and fun.
