Rolling in the Deep

Reaching a fever pitch, it's bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go head and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare
See how I leave with every piece of you
Don't underestimate the things that I will do
There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever bitch
The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat
[Mike Poser Scatting]
Baby I have no story to be told
But I've heard one of you
And I'm gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Making a home down there
It Reminds you of the home we shared
The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat
Throw your soul through every open door
Count your blessings to find what you look for
Turned my sorrow into treasured gold
You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow
We could have had it all
We could have had it all
It all, it all it all,
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

?
ba-ba-ba-baby bringing me out the dark.
The lyrics to Mike Posner's version of "Rolling in the Deep" are a powerful expression of the pain love can bring. Posner's interpretation of the song emphasizes the fire and fever pitch of emotion that can come with heartbreak. The opening lines describe the heat of the feeling that's 'bringing me out the dark,' suggesting that the experience of love and heartbreak is a transformative one. The singer goes on to vow that they won't be underestimated in the face of the pain they're experiencing; they'll leave with every piece of the person they loved.
The chorus features the famous refrain, "We could have had it all / Rolling in the deep / You had my heart and soul / And you played it / To the beat." Rolling in the deep is an expression that can mean many things--the depths of emotion, the ocean, the darkness--making it the perfect metaphor for the all-encompassing pain the singer is experiencing. They felt that the person they loved had everything they were and could have been, but instead that love left them breathless.
The bridge contrasts this pain with a sense of redemption. Posner sings "Turned my sorrow into treasured gold / You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow," suggesting that despite the suffering, he's found a way to transform it into something valuable. Ultimately, however, the song is a powerful expression of loss and the realization that, despite everything, love isn't always enough.

I love how every cover I hear sounds different from the last one and different from the original. Thats what a great soul song does- allows the possibility for so many other artists to relate and feel it in their own way.
