Almost
Mike Reno/Ann Wilson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought that dreams belonged to other men
'Cause each time I got close
They'd fall apart again
I feared my heart would beat in secrecy
I faced the nights alone
Oh, how could I have known
That all my life
I only needed you?

Oh
Almost paradise
We're knocking on heaven's door
Almost paradise
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I can see
Forever in your eyes
Paradise

It seems like perfect love's
So hard to find
I'd almost given up
You must've read my mind
And all these dreams
I saved for a rainy day
They're finally coming true
I'll share them all with you
'Cause now we hold the
Future in our hands

Oh
Almost paradise
We're knocking on heaven's door
Almost paradise
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I can see
Forever in your eyes
Paradise

And in your arms
Salvation's not so far away
It's getting closer
Closer every day

Almost paradise
We're knocking on heaven's door
Almost paradise
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I can see
Forever in your eyes
Paradise

Overall Meaning

The song "Almost paradise" by Mike Reno is a love ballad that talks about a man who has almost given up on love, but then finds his perfect partner. The song expresses a feeling of hope for a better tomorrow, and the idea that true love can conquer all. The lyrics paint a picture of a person who has come to terms with the reality of life - that perfect love is hard to find. The verse "It seems like perfect love's so hard to find, I'd almost given up. You must've read my mind" captures this emotion.

The chorus of the song is a declaration of love, as the singer says "Almost paradise, we're knocking on heaven's door. Almost paradise, how could we ask for more? I swear that I can see forever in your eyes. Paradise." The use of the metaphor "knocking on heaven's door" expresses the idea that the love between two people is so intense that it almost feels like they are on the verge of reaching paradise. The singer also expresses his gratitude for having found his soulmate, and the dreams that he had saved for a rainy day, are finally coming true.

The bridge of the song is another expression of love as the singer says, "And in your arms, salvation's not so far away. It's getting closer, closer every day." The use of the word 'salvation' shows that the singer has found redemption in love and with his partner, and the fact that it is getting closer every day, proves that the love between the two people is growing stronger.

Overall, "Almost paradise" is a song that talks about the power of love to transform lives and bring people closer to heaven.
