Sparring
Mikel Erentxun Lyrics

nadie les llamó
firmaron un papel
que nadie vio.
Y nuestra casa cae
como un boxeador
que ya no tiene edad
Un gran almacén
cubre cada rincón
de donde hice real
aquel temprano amor.
Sólo es un dia más
es nuestra rendición:
un sparring sobre el ring
caerá sin poder preguntar por qué caerá
sin poder preguntar por quién.
The lyrics to Mikel Erentxun's song "Sparring" tell the story of a house falling apart like an aging boxer who cannot remember who he is. The opening lines describe a group of people who came to the house and signed a paper that nobody saw. It's unclear who these people are, but their signing of the paper seems to have something to do with the house's decline. In the following lines, Erentxun uses a metaphor to describe the house's condition, comparing it to a boxer who has outlived his prime and can no longer fight the good fight.
The next lines discuss a great warehouse that now occupies the space where the singer once shared an early love. The image of a massive warehouse dominating the landscape is a potent symbol of capitalism and the destruction of tradition and history. The final lines are a poignant depiction of the singer's sense of resignation in the face of impending defeat. The sparring match is a metaphor for life, and the singer knows that he will fall without knowing why he fell or who defeated him. The lyrics are somber and melancholic, expressing a sense of loss and confusion that is all too familiar in today's society.
