Amidst all the Tony Williams adulation a big shout out to Ron Carter, he’s lock step with everything that’s going down and he sounds so very good! The perfect bassist for this group.

Ron was amazing then, and is now- he's got a pretty active YT channel where he uploads interviews with other musicians, lesson snippets, back catalog album cuts, live stuff. One of the more accessible living legends out there.

Again, Tony is all over these recordings...Magnificent drumming!

@Pordan Jeterson Take the wool out your ears. Either you’re trolling or a list cause! Smh!

All I hear is crazy ride cymbal... where's the actual drumming? Can you point to a moment?

Carl Kandutsch

He's the engine under the hood, 12 cylinders

Absolutely great. I love the polyrhythm 6/8 vs 4/4 evolving over that great bassline...

@Curt Rayvis "dominated the scene" is very much a matter of opinion. There were SO many great groups that were active at the time, it's just silly to claim any one of them was dominant.

Curt Rayvis

Tony Williams has to be the most facile drummer in history, though my favorite is still Elvin Jones. But this quintet had a signature sound that dominated the scene from '63-'69. I still love listening to my vinyl of these albums.
