Miles in Montreux I
Miles Davis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard, for love to ever last
My heart should be well schooled, 'cause I've been fooled in the past
And still I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast

I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard, for love to ever last
My heart should be well schooled, 'cause I've been fooled in the past
And still I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast

Overall Meaning

Miles Davis Quintet's "I Fall in Love Too Easily" is a song that delves into the theme of falling in love too easily and too quickly. The lyrics showcase an individual who admits to being hurt in the past from past romantic endeavours, yet cannot help but continue to fall in love quickly and without reservations. The chorus repeats the phrase "I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast" repeatedly, highlighting just how much the individual recognizes their penchant for falling in love at the drop of a hat. The lyrics go deeper into the heart of this longing and admit that the love is often not reciprocal, implying a sense of heartbreak, disappointment, and unrequited love.

The song's message is poignant and relatable. The vulnerability of falling in love and experiencing heartbreak resonates with listeners who have yearned for love or been hurt by it. The song is open and raw about the situation, highlighting that love can be complicated and difficult to navigate, regardless of one's past experiences. The song is a showcase of musical excellence too, with the smooth tone and haunting melody of the trumpet (Miles Davis) in collaboration with the other instruments in the quintet, making it a soothing and emotional piece.

The song has been covered by several artists, and its popularity continues to grow. The lyrics themselves are often quoted or used as a reference to relate to the experience of falling in love too easily or having a broken heart. "I Fall in Love Too Easily" has become a timeless classic that has resonated with audiences of different generations, and the music is a testament to the power of introspection and vulnerability in songwriting.

Davis and Leibman really push each other on Turnaround Phrase--that's one of the best solos I've ever heard Leibman play, and just listen to Miles on his return around 10 minutes in. That's as fierce as he ever played in his career.

This is the first time I've heard this set. Simply, starting with Turnaroundphase, they couldn't find a groove. They tried, but as a whole, it didn't come together, in my lazy, humble view. And this is my favorite time period of The Miles Davis Band.

Holy crap, Al Foster is a machine.

@johnnyprovo7157

He is-I always wondered if Miles told him to leave the high hat open like that to be opposite of all the 16th note funky tight hi hat sound everyone else used.

Hats off too the sound engineers

@alb1908

@andrewtannenbaum1

What i like about this is Miles' command of his instrument. He is literally building on his entire career as a trumpeter of compelling instinct. After he lost this command in later years, I don't stand in awe as much. The whole band is of equal musicianship.
